Stockton's quiet residential community in Stonewood
On the northern side of Stockton, Stonewood is a quiet residential community that still feels centrally located. “It’s on the quieter side of Stockton, so there’s not a ton of things going on, but that’s part of the vibe,” says local school secretary Jennifer Plemons. “Stonewood is a more reserved part of town, but it’s a nice neighborhood for a more quiet side of life.” Residents can enjoy the rambling residential streets while still being just minutes from shopping centers and parks.
Unique ranches create an eclectic feel in Stonewood
While most homes in Stonewood are ranches, each house has a unique color scheme, detailing and style, so each home stands out. Stonewood’s streets are wider than most Stockton neighborhoods, with enough room for multiple cars. While residents can use space to park on both sides of the street, most residents have front-facing two-car garages. Instead, the wide roads and occasional trees create an open, spacious feel. Sidewalks are flush with the road, lining both sides of the streets in Stonewood. Homes here typically list between $450,000 and $625,000.
Stonewood students attend Lodi Unified Schools
Stonewood may be in Stockton proper, but students will attend schools in the Lodi Unified School District. Students go to Oakwood Elementary School and Delta Sierra Middle School, which both receive C rankings from Niche. Students interested in trades education can take Career Technology Education classes through Bear Creek High School, which earns a B from Niche.
Athletic fields and walking paths at parks around Stonewood
At Dentoni Park, walking paths wind through the trees and connect to the various athletic amenities, from basketball courts to a baseball diamond. Kids can play at the playground here. Sandman Park offers more open green space with two baseball diamonds but also has pathways shaded by trees. “There’s the Delta Little League Park, where all the kids go to play,” says Realtor Lance McHan with Lance McHan. To the north, Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park features a disc golf course spread across the park’s 180 acres and a 1.5-mile nature trail through the groves. Park officials stock the pond with catfish and trout, but people can also rent paddleboats on summer weekends. Though Stonewood is a smaller, more residential community than other areas around Stockton, it boasts multiple religious centers in the southern corner, including those for Jehovah’s Witnesses, a Buddhist monastery and an Islamic Masjid.
Locally-acclaimed Filipino cuisine and nearby shopping centers
Just across Thornton Road, Best Lumpia’s name speaks for itself—this Filipino joint draws locals for its incredible adobo and lumpia. About 2.5 miles down Thornton Road, Lincoln Center offers several grocery options, including Safeway, Trader Joe’s and Podesto’s. About 3 miles in the other direction, Park West Place is north Stockton’s shopping destination, featuring a Target and Walmart Supercenter. Moo Moo’s Burger Barn is also here, featuring classic American burgers and old-fashioned milkshakes.
Connect to downtown Stockton via Thornton Road
Thornton Road is Stonewood’s major thoroughfare, connecting residents to shopping centers and downtown Stockton, just 6.8 miles away. Bus stops are minimal in Stonewood, so residents will likely have to use their cars to get places. Just beyond Sherwoods Manor to the west, the 5 can take people to Stockton Metropolitan Airport, about 14 miles away. Dignity Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center is over 6 miles away. Even though Stonewood is part of Lodi Unified School District, downtown Lodi is 10 miles from the neighborhood.
Summer concerts and cultural festivals around Stockton
Downtown Stockton is full of fun and eclectic events, highlighting the city's diverse culture. “We have the asparagus festival, where 30,000 to 40,000 people show up to eat asparagus,” McHan says. The Buddhist Church of Stockton sponsors Taste of Obon, a Japanese cultural festival featuring traditional tea ceremonies, dances, and excellent Japanese food. Concerts in the Park occurs every Wednesday evening in Victory Park, where locals gather on the lawn and listen to local musicians perform.
