Boone Valley
Single-family homes on large lots and townhouses
Many single-family homes sit on multi-acre lots, but there is a selection of townhouses in the area, too. “The market here is competitive because of low taxes and highway convenience,” Morgan says. Boone Valley is split in half by its namesake Boone Valley Road. To the east, buyers will find midcentury ranch-style homes on multi-acre lots with varying degrees of trees. Driveways are paved or gravel and usually long, capable of accommodating multiple cars. Prices for single-family homes range from $240,000 to $470,000. Ridge Creek forms the west side of the neighborhood, a community of two-story 21st-century townhouses. A network of sidewalks connects these homes, and many have designated parking spaces, and some have paved driveways and garages. Prices range from $170,000 to $300,000, plus monthly homeowners association fees.A tale of two cities, and a tale of two highways
Boone Valley is sandwiched between two major highways, Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 70. Downtown Greensboro is about 13 miles west, while Burlington sits 9 miles east. Durham and Chapel Hill are both about 40 miles east. Cone Health’s Alamance Medical Center is a 6-mile drive east. Piedmont Triad International Airport, the nearest commercial airport, sits 27 miles to the west. Residents have proximity to several major employers. “There’s a lot more industry over here than other parts of Guilford County,” says Gloria Mitchell, Realtor with Wilkinson Triad. As examples, the long-time Whitsett resident points to the Amazon Delivery Station and Lenovo Fulfillment Center less than a mile south of the interstate.Launching into Lake Mackintosh
Guilford-Mackintosh Park and Marina is only a few miles south of the neighborhood, just north of Lake Mackintosh. A reservoir of the Little Alamance Creek, Lake Mackintosh spans over 1,000 acres. “You can fish, kayak and canoe on the lake,” Morgan says. The park also p 3 miles of wooded hiking trails, a sand volleyball court and playgrounds. Springwood Park is popular for baseball and softball, and it has an 18-hole disc golf course. Stoney Creek Golf Club is across Burlington Road. In 2019, the North Carolina Golf Panel ranked the club’s golf course as one of the top 100 in the state and second most fun to play in the Triad. The club offers members-only golf clinics and tournaments and a swimming pool.Hand-tossed pizzas and locally brewed lagers
The closest stores and restaurants lie at Stoney Creek Village, a shopping plaza near the neighborhood's west end. Stores include Food Lion, CVS and Dollar General. Ciao Pizza and Italian Restaurant is a semi-casual establishment that serves hand-tossed pizzas, pasta, seafood and more. Wholly Guacamole Mexican Grille invites patrons to enjoy classic south-of-the-border cuisine, including tacos, tortas and fajitas. Located on the other end of the neighborhood, Red Oak Brewery is one of the oldest extant breweries in North Carolina and the largest lager-only craft brewery in the country. Visitors are invited to enjoy craft beer and pub fare in the spacious beer hall or garden and even tour the facility on select occasions. Additional shopping centers sit several miles east down I-40 in Burlington.Eastern Guilford High’s remodeled weight room
Sedalia Elementary earns a B from Niche, while Eastern Guilford Middle and Eastern Guilford High receive C-pluses. In the summer of 2023, Eastern Guilford High’s weight room was remodeled and received new equipment. The school’s media center also has a virtual reality lab. Elon University, a private higher education institution offering over 70 undergraduate degrees and a few graduate programs, is 7 miles northeast in the town of Elon.Celebrating an antique carousel
Each May, the two-day Burlington Carousel Festival at Burlington City Park invites families to enjoy nostalgic amusement park rides, listen to live music and create arts and crafts. The Dentzel Menagerie Carousel is arguably the festival’s main attraction, a 20th-century merry-go-round with hand-painted, hand-carved animals such as tigers, giraffes and horses. Only 25 Dentzel carousels are operating in the United States.
