Stoney Creek Golf Club
Architecturally diverse homes
Several different subdivisions form the Stoney Creek Golf Club neighborhood. It is architecturally diverse and offers Colonial Revivals, French Country style homes, a mix of townhouses and more. Most single-family homes follow New Traditional designs, some with American Craftsman influence. There are also eclectic custom builds. The oldest homes sprang up in the late 1990s, while new constructions continue to enter the neighborhood. Prices range from $300,000 to $670,000, depending on interior space and proximity to the golf course. Single-family homes are on the larger side, with an average square footage of 2,500 against the national average of about 1,900. Even townhouses average almost 1,700 square feet. Knob Creek Drive offers two-unit, single-story American Craftsman townhouses with two-car garages. On the other hand, Bellcross Trail and Creek Crossing Trail feature two-story townhouses on lots below a quarter of an acre in size. Sidewalks connect Derby Run Drive’s two-story townhouses. Townhouses start at $200,000 and get up to $330,000. The neighborhood gets an overall CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, below the national average of 4.Stoney Creek Golf Club is the neighborhood’s centerpiece
Stoney Creek Golf Club sits at the neighborhood’s core, the community’s namesake and main attraction, particularly for its scenic championship 19-hole course. “The golf club has more of a rustic feel than the ones that are out in the city,” says Gloria Mitchell, Realtor with Wilkinson Triad, who has been selling homes in the area for 30 years. “The people are very friendly, and the club’s more affordable than ones in the city like Sedgefield.” The members-only club also offers an aquatics center, clubhouse and lessons for those looking to improve their golf game. In 2019, the North Carolina Golf Panel voted the course as one of the top 100 in the state. Guilford-Mackintosh Park and Marina lies just a few miles south of the neighborhood, where Little Alamance Creek flows into the Lake Mackintosh reservoir. The park offers miles of arboreal hiking trails along with a boat ramp. Alternatively, visitors can rent canoes, kayaks and rowboats. Motorboats are not permitted on Lake Mackintosh, nor is swimming allowed; however, anglers are welcome to fish. At Springwood Park, a few miles to the east, athletes can play baseball, softball or an 18-hole disc golf course.Shopping and eating at Stoney Creek Village
Stoney Creek Village sits in the southwest corner of the neighborhood. This shopping center has anchor stores such as Food Lion, which provides groceries, while CVS is the closest pharmacy. Other businesses include Dollar General, Ace Hardware and a few eateries. Ciao Pizza and Italian Restaurant offers hand-tossed pizza, salads, pasta and desserts such as cannoli and tiramisu, while Wholly Guacamole Mexican Grille serves margaritas, fajitas and other Mexican favorites. Red Oak Brewery, one of the oldest extant breweries in North Carolina, makes its beers in the old-fashioned Bavarian way, using only malted barley, hops, water and yeast. Patrons can enjoy lagers inside the establishment’s large beer hall or in the venue’s beer garden, only about 3 miles southeast of the neighborhood. On select days, visitors can tour the facility or attend public events, from bingo nights to art exhibitions.Interstate access and nearby hospitals and airports
U.S. Route 70, also known as Burlington Road, bounds the neighborhood to the south. Most residents are about 2 miles from the ramps to Interstate 40. Burlington sits 9 miles to the east, while Greensboro is 13 miles west. Chapel Hill and Durham are both about a 40-to-45-mile drive east. Piedmont Triad International Airport, the closest commercial airport, sits 26 miles west of Greensboro. Cone Health’s Alamance Regional Medical Center is the nearest hospital, located 8 miles east in Burlington.Schools with an emphasis on community service and a nearby university
Less than 3 miles west of most homes, Sedalia Elementary gets an overall B from Niche. The school was established at the request of Charlotte Hawkins Brown, a civil rights activist and educator who ran the Palmer Memorial Institute, a school for Black children. Brown wanted to see the establishment of a public school for the children who could not afford Palmer’s tuition. Eastern Guilford Middle and Eastern Guilford High both receive C-pluses. Students at Eastern Guilford High can participate in the National Beta Senior Club, an honor society where 12th-grade students complete 70 hours of community service. Elon University, a private higher education institution, sits 6 miles northeast of the neighborhood. The university offers over 70 undergraduate majors, along with several graduate programs.
