Vibrant community in the Highlands

With a charming collection of shotgun homes, little free libraries and towering maple trees in the Highlands, Belknap was ranked the third-best neighborhood to live in Louisville by Niche. “It’s very densely populated and is part of that cultural hub,” says Neal Cox, a Principal Broker of the Judah Real Estate Group who has been selling homes in the area for over seven years. The community is the largest neighborhood in the Highlands and is centrally located just west of Bardstown Road, a retail hub boasting a collection of eclectic shops and restaurants. With access to a plethora of local amenities, residents are also about 5 miles from Downtown Louisville and enjoy proximity to I-264.

Thriving retail hub along Bardstown Road

Bardstown Road is often referred to as Louisville’s original Restaurant Row, with a charming collection of bars, cafés and restaurants sitting side-by-side. “There’s so much going on here all the time, and there’s a lot of nightlife in the area,” says Goudy. Local favorites include craft breweries such as Ten20, ice cream parlors such as Ehrler’s Ice Cream and sit-down restaurants such as Havana Rumba, known for its Cuban tapas. The thoroughfare is also celebrated for its diverse collection of shops, with music shops such as Electric Ladyland and The Great Escape. Bardstown Road connects to Dundee Road, where longstanding spots such as Loop Barber Shop, an old-school barber operating since 1926, continue to thrive. For groceries, there is a Kroger centrally located on Bardstown Road about a mile from residents.
