Location is key in Sunset
In Sunset, it’s all about convenience and location. “It is hard to beat the Sunset location,” says Realtor Mike Merino of Realty One. “It’s close to great schools and hospitals, there’s shopping close by, it’s easy to get to the highway, and it’s near the beach.” Situated less than 20 miles west of downtown Miami, the area features an array of well-built and attractive homes to choose from, ranging from cozy ranch-style houses to sprawling modern designs in gated communities. Area schools are highly rated, and the neighborhood features popular restaurants and shopping opportunities, as well as multiple nearby parks.
Cozy bungalows to luxury estates
The housing scene in Sunset is diverse, with options ranging from cozy one-bedroom condos to luxury, multi-million-dollar estates. “There’s a really good range of price points in the area,” says Merino. In-ground pools are common, and most lots range from 8,000 square feet to just over an acre. Small bungalows and ranch-style homes that could use some interior upgrades range from $370,000 to $710,000, while larger builds with recent renovations can go for $720,000 to $2.15 million, price tags increasing with square footage and property size. Townhouses and condos range from $160,000 to $560,000.
High-performing education and dual enrollment offerings
Students of Sunset can attend Snapper Creek Elementary and Glades Middle School, which earn B-plus and B ratings from Niche, respectively. Southwest Miami Senior High School receives an A-minus and has over 50 clubs and extracurricular offerings, from robotics and esports to Italian club and color guard. High schoolers can take dual enrollment courses through Miami Dade College and Florida International University.
Athletic facilities and proximity to Miami Beach
For outdoor recreation, Sunset offers residents a choice of nearby parks. Sunset Park has a playground, athletic facilities and a walking path. Miller Drive Park has basketball and tennis courts and a playground. Miller Drive Park is also home to the Raices Hispanic Heritage Arts and Culture Center, offering visual and performing arts programs for all ages. Residents are also around 20 miles from Miami Beach, a year-round hot spot for swimming, fishing and sunbathing. On the neighborhood’s southern boundary, the 3-mile Snapper Creek Trail is popular among runners and bikers.
Shopping, dinner dates and fresh seafood
Sunset is within minutes of shopping centers and popular restaurants. Publix is conveniently located in the Miller Road Shopping Center, along with stores like Dollar Tree, Walgreens and Lemay Jewelry. The Fish House is a casual eatery with regular live music and freshly caught seafood. For date night, A Love Story Winery and Bistro serves elevated steakhouse fare in a romantic setting, with dishes like tuna tartare and tomahawk steak that can be enjoyed alongside a specialty cocktail or glass of wine.
Palmetto Expressway and public transit surrounding Sunset
The community offers easy access to the Palmetto Expressway, which can take drivers to Miami International Airport in around 12 miles. Downtown Miami is roughly 18 miles northeast. Metrobus operates dozens of bus routes throughout the Miami Area, with nearby stops along Sunset Drive, 87th Avenue and Miller Drive. The Dadeland North Metrorail station is less than 5 miles from Sunset and provides rapid transit to the airport, downtown Miami and the surrounding suburbs.
