Traditional homes, suburban feel and convenient location

Located minutes from both Harrisburg and Hershey, Lawnton offers a convenient corner of south-central Pennsylvania. A sizable portion of mid to late-20th-century residences make up this peaceful, primarily tree-shaded residential area in the northeast corner of the Interstate 83 and Route 322 intersection. “Lawnton is a suburb with mostly post-war boom homes,” says local Realtor Jon Judson. “It has a blend of business and residential areas.” Local businesses are clustered along Derry Street, a primary commercial thoroughfare lined by low-slung offices and shopping centers that parallel a busy railroad corridor and a highway that leads to the world-famous town of Hershey.

From well-known stores to locally owned eateries

Residents have easy access to a variety of shopping and dining options for everything from the essentials to home goods and more. The various big box stores, fast-food franchises and national retailers, including Walmart and Target, are dispersed in the shopping centers along Route 322 and the Capital Beltway corridor. In the northwest corner of the neighborhood, The Point Shopping Center features familiar names like Giant Grocer, Burlington and Panera. Residents can also choose a dining atmosphere that fits their mood from the handful of diverse eateries along Derry Street. The Promenade offers an extensive menu of homey breakfasts in a relaxed family-style setting, while Swatara Restaurant and Bar serves thoughtfully plated, elevated Asian and Indian dishes. More Asian specialties can be picked up next door at Pho Kim’s or Mom’s MoMo and Deli.
For more than a century, fruit trees and vegetables have been farmed in Strites Orchard, which is located south of the highway. During the 1950s, the family decided to expand and opened a market that is now a well-liked local institution. They provide bread, fresh vegetables, and a variety of other foods. Visitors may also pay to harvest their own sunflowers, apples, grapes, and pumpkins at the location.
