Cory Lake Isles
Suburban Neighborhood in Tampa, Florida
Hillsborough County 33647

Surrounded by 17,000 acres of woodlands and a 165-acre lake
The 165-acre lake at the heart of Cory Lake Isles is a labor of love partially dug by the community’s founder, Gene Thomason and is a vital part of the neighborhood’s identity. The lake is popular for skiing and boating and is accessible from most homes. The lake has a boat ramp and is the hub for most community events. The Beach Club is the neighborhood’s other central gathering space for recreation. Surrounding the club are a resort-style lagoon pool with a waterslide, a 24-hour fitness center, a small beach, volleyball, pickleball and basketball courts. “It’s really a family-oriented community. I raised my son here,” says Reyes. “All the residents know each other, and you’ll see them riding their bikes, walking and running.”Cory Lake Isles also has a soccer field near the Beach Club, a roller hockey rink with bleachers and four community parks. The largest is next to the Beach Club, and all the parks have playgrounds and plenty of picnic space. The Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve, the largest natural area in the Tampa Bay region, surrounds the south and east sides of the neighborhood. The preserve offers 60 miles of trails over 16,000 acres, boating opportunities along Hillsborough River, fishing from the boardwalks and admiring various wildlife. “It’s such a beautiful place,” says Reyes. The 3,000-acre Hillsborough River State Park adjoins the preserve, which offers even more opportunities for hikers and boaters. A primitive canoe trail marks the path to this hardwood swamp, so it’s recommended for avid hikers and experienced boaters. Flatwoods Park to the south and Wilderness Park to the east are also prime spots for cyclists looking to explore the area. Morris Bridge Recreation Area, 3 miles away, is another preserve surrounding the community, offering boat docks, bird watching and rugged paths for off-road cycling. Campers and horse enthusiasts can also enjoy the outdoors, as Washburn Equestrian Area is less than 2 miles away.
Shopping and dining less than 2 miles away
Retail and dining options are less than 2 miles away at the Publix-anchored Cross Creek Commons shopping center. The Grill at Morris Bridge is an upscale establishment known for its short ribs, seafood risotto and wine selection. Johnny C’s Italian Eatery serves traditional classics from chicken marsala to larger-than-life pies and garlic knots. The shopping strip is also home to Dosa Hut, an eatery serving southern Indian fare. The Shoppes at New Tampa are 7 miles northwest for more shopping and dining options.Luxury lakefront Mediterranean homes
Niche ranked Cory Lake Isles as the seventh-best neighborhood in Tampa to buy a house in. The gated neighborhood is guarded 24/7, and its winding streets, which all have a tropical island name, are lined with palms and a dense canopy of mature oaks. The neighborhood offers stately Spanish and Mediterranean-influenced homes, a few ranch-style houses and modern custom builds sprinkled in. Most homes were built in the early 2000s and range from around $520,000 for a three-bedroom over 2,500 square feet to over $2 million for a custom five- or six-bedroom lakefront home over 6,000 square feet. Most homes have waterfront, natural conservation or some sort of water views. “These are the only waterfront residences in New Tampa,” says Reyes. Higher-end homes on the water come with private docks and resort-style backyards with tropical landscaping. Nearly all Cory Lake Isles homes have pools, multi-car garages, and decent-sized lots, with the average around 10,000 square feet, but most stretch over a quarter acre.A community that celebrates
Cory Lake Isles Property Owners Association organizes various events for residents, including an annual fall festival in November, a Veteran’s Day brunch, a holiday boat parade and cookie decorating in December, a spring festival in March and an end-of-school bash in May. Its Fourth of July celebration is its biggest and most popular event, featuring a picnic, fishing tournament and boat parade hosted by the Cory Lake Isles Beach Club.Downtown Tampa is 22 miles away
Cross Creek Boulevard is the main thoroughfare in the neighborhood. It connects to Interstate 75, providing access to the rest of the region. Downtown Tampa is 22 miles away, Tampa International Airport is 27 miles away, and the nearest hospital is AdventHealth Tampa, an 11-mile drive. Residents will need a car as there is no public transit.Home to the second-best school district in Tampa
Hillsborough County Public Schools serves the area and is the second-best district in the Tampa area, according to Niche. Students attend Hunters Green Elementary, Benito Middle School and Wharton High School. Hunter’s Green, which offers a strawberry festival, scored an A-minus on Niche, and Benito earned a B-plus. Also earning a B-plus, Wharton High offers track and football teams and a book club.
