Besides environmental risks, the city’s crime rates have slowly increased over the years. In December 2019, the Taylor Police Department recorded 73 violent crimes. In January 2024, the department recorded 130 violent offenses. Karl Ziomek, Taylor’s Director of Communications and Marketing, says the Taylor Police Department has responded to increasing crime with several progressive measures. "Taylor Police are currently involved in a ton of campaigns that involve community policing. They are one of the top Downriver law enforcement agencies when it comes to new technology. Recently, they added the StarChase GPS 'dart' system to avoid high-speed chases and purchased a RAD DOG, which is a robotic dog," he says.
