Silo District
Southern charm at affordable prices
The tree-lined, quiet neighborhood features single-family cozy bungalows, ranch-style homes and contemporary houses. Most homes were built in the 1950s, ranging from $140,000 to $190,000 – perfect for a starter home or those wanting to be near downtown without the higher price. The median price for a single-family home in Downtown Temple is $300,000. Newly constructed homes can be found in the Bruner subdivision, which offers more modern designs. Lots are adorned with mature trees, providing plenty of shade and tranquility. Yards are immaculately maintained with lush, spacious lawns and paved walkways.
Cruising around Las Cruces
Residents are within walking distance of Downtown Temple, offering eclectic shopping, dining and attractions. Interstate 35 and Temple’s public transit, The Hop, conveniently provide access to the broader region and bigger cities. Las Cruces residents are also 1 mile from the V.A. Hospital and 2 miles from Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple.Terrific extracurriculars at Temple Schools
Served by the Temple Independent School District, local students attend Cater Elementary School, Lamar Middle School and Temple High School. Both the elementary and middle schools received a B-minus from Niche. Cater offers an annual book float parade, a choir club and regular STEM nights in partnership with the Kennedy-Powell STEM Academy. Middle school students can also attend Travis Science Academy, which earned an overall B on Niche and is ranked the No. 12 best middle school in Bell County. Earning a B from Niche, Temple High offers volleyball and football teams, a yearbook club and an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.Historic and scenic parks
On the edge of Las Cruces’s boundary is Carver Park, a quaint pocket park shaded with a canopy of trees, where residents can shoot hoops, stroll the paved trails or bring a picnic lunch. Just over the boundary is Jeff Hamilton Park, a historical marker at the center honoring its namesake. Here, let the kids play, enjoy sand volleyball, walk the trails or stroll the Hispanic Heritage Bridge, which honors the early immigrants who settled in the area.Las Cruces caters to all tastes
The closest restaurants and shops are along Route 290. Enjoy southern-style comfort classics at Old Jody’s Restaurant or dine at El Sombrero Tapatio Mexican Restaurant for its famous breakfast tacos, flautas and other Tex-Mex fare. In the Pecan Plaza shopping center, enjoy a hot slice from Joe’s Pizza and Pasta, fuel up at Suzy Q’s Coffee Shop & Café and hop over to the nearby dessert shop, La Monarca Cravings, for churros or mangonadas. The plaza also offers a clothing boutique, hair salon and gift shop. Get essentials and specialty foods at Mungi’s Grocer or hop downtown, less than a mile away, to grab groceries at H-E-B, peruse a variety of locally owned shops and eateries or shop over 50 retailers at Temple Mall.
Live it up in Las Cruces
Every Halloween, Las Cruces hosts the Silo of Screams, a haunted house for children and adults, located in and around the towering silos on Industrial Boulevard.
