Edgebrook is an established neighborhood on Terre Haute’s northeast side
Edgebrook might not be a neighborhood Terre Haute residents know off the top of their heads. But homeowners in this small community don’t mind keeping their residential northeast enclave a secret. “If you say Edgebrook, people might not recognize it because it’s like a 1950s subdivision,” says Carrie Smith, a Terre Haute resident and Realtor with Gibson Real Estate who has sold homes in the neighborhood. “This is a great area because it’s across the street from North High School, and you’re still a north ender. I’ve only known two people who’ve lived there; one was a teacher who’d walk home for lunch, and then another person who moved there and never left.”

Lost Creek Elementary School is a draw for residents
“Another reason people might be interested in buying here is Lost Creek Elementary School,” Smith says. “That’s a coveted elementary school. It’s a little bit of a drive, but it’s a wonderful school.” The elementary school is a little over 5 minutes away and receives a B from Niche. From there, students may attend Woodrow Wilson Middle School, which gets a C-plus, before heading to Terre Haute North Vigo High School, B. The high school is within walking distance of many homes.

Midcentury ranch-style homes and cottages are rarely for sale
Edgebrook dates back to the 1950s. The subdivision’s collection of cottages, ranch-style and occasional two-story homes often include attached and detached garages and sit on spacious wooded lots. Folks stay put after buying in the neighborhood; turnover is sparse, and homes rarely go on the market here. Prices range from $140,000 for 1,200 square feet to $260,000 for 2,500 square feet on a nearly half-acre lot.

Hiking and biking on the National Road Heritage Trail
Parks and recreation are within a short drive or bike ride from the community. Sheridan Park has tons of open green space for picnics and playdates, as well as a playground, a shelter, sports fields and a skate park. A dedicated bike trail starts at Maple Avenue just outside the high school. It connects to the 6.5-mile National Road Heritage Trail that runs throughout Terre Haute. Residents are within a five-minute drive of Indiana State University Memorial Stadium, where fans cheer on the Sycamores.

About 3 miles to downtown Terre Haute
Most people drive, but residents also use bike trails to get around town. Wabash Avenue is one of Terre Haute’s most traveled roadways. It leads to the heart of the city, 3 miles west, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 3 miles east. The route transforms into U.S. Route 40, another essential thoroughfare connecting to Interstate 70. Union Hospital is about 3 miles away. Several active railroads run through the city, and a railyard is east of the community. “The railroad contributes to traffic for sure, but not often,” Smith says. “It’s on a schedule, and the people that live there know there’s a schedule. Noise is not really an issue. I worked at North High School for years, and we never heard a train.”
