A charming enclave north of downtown San Antonio
Live oaks stretch their branches out over the streets in the San Antonio enclave of Terrell Hills. This city is full of Southern charm with Southwest flair in a location that makes it highly desirable for homebuyers. "The location is the main draw. It's almost smack dab in the middle of the city, but not considered downtown," says Robert Elder, a Realtor with Phyllis Browning Co., who has sold homes in the area. "It's very close to the airport. It's close to the zoo and children's museum. There's a ton of stuff to do." Just north of downtown, residents here have easy access to everything San Antonio offers while enjoying the comfort of a serene suburban neighborhood.
Sprawling Spanish-style estates and ranch-style homes
Terrell Hills is a residential city with tree-lined streets home to several types of houses. "There's a broad stroke of styles in Terrell Hills. There's everything from midcentury modern to traditional. There's some transitional Mediterranean as well," says Elder. Homebuyers can find sprawling homes in the Spanish Revival and Mediterranean styles common in the Southwest. Colonial Revival and Italian Renaissance homes with symmetrical facades are commonly found on the city's west side. Buyers will find modest ranch homes and bungalows near the city's east end, many of which have been recently renovated. Ranch-style homes in Terrell Hills can cost anywhere from $300,000 to $500,000. The larger luxury homes on the city's west side typically cost over $1 million, with five-bedroom homes costing up to $3 to $6 million.

Play a round at San Antonio Country Club
Several parks in the city offer green space to relax and connect with neighbors. Geneseo Esplanade hosts the city's annual 4th of July parade, which concludes with a community block party. Crestwood Park has a small playground for children to play on. It also hosts the city's annual Easter egg hunt and a Holiday parade that includes pictures with Santa. Golf lovers can play a round at the San Antonio Country Club just south of the neighborhood. The 18-hole, par-72 course features mature trees and several water hazards throughout the grounds. The club also has several tennis courts and a heated outdoor swimming pool. There are also several attractions nearby, such as the San Antonio Zoo, just 2.5 miles west of the city. The zoo is home to more than 750 species of animals, including reptiles, big cats and birds. The McNay Art Museum is just north across Austin Highway and offers 25 acres of paintings and sculptures. Residents can browse the diverse collections inside or spend some time in the outdoor sculpture garden.
Elevated local flavors just west of town
Elder recommends Cappy's or Paloma Blanca for a good local meal. Cappy's offers elevated American fare in a wood-paneled dining room. Locals especially enjoy coming here for brunch. Paloma Blanca is a colorful, traditional Mexican restaurant famous for its tres leches cake and homemade tamales. A Central Market just west of the city on Broadway provides residents with grocery and pharmacy items. Broadway is also lined with popular local shops, such as Nowhere Bookshop, Antiques at Broadway and Hanley Wood Fine Gifts.
