The name isn't the only thing Texarkana, Texas, shares with its sister city in Arkansas. The post office and federal courthouse building, located on State Line Avenue, literally straddles the state border. The state line sign out front is a popular photo op. Texas' Texarkana has a population of nearly 36,000 and is part of the greater Ark-La-Tex region, which includes Louisiana, whose state line is about 30 miles away. "You're conveniently located," says Angela Son, broker and owner at Angela Son Realty of the city. "You're just a couple hours from Dallas and Little Rock." Major employers in the area include CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital, Red River Army Depot and the Cooper Tire & Rubber plant. The city is also part of the Make My Move program, which offers relocation assistance and other incentives to entice remote workers to live in Texarkana.
