It’s all in the name
When it comes to The Acreage, the name is not a mere moniker but also a succinct description of the area’s appeal. This Loxahatchee community, which sprouted in earnest during the 1970s as the product of a development project that parceled lots into an acre and a quarter each, is still a draw for the land. The area is a departure from the more densely constructed, suburban-style neighborhoods found in nearby places like Royal Palm Beach and Westlake. “The biggest draw is going to be the fact you can get an acre, a modern home and there’s no HOA,” says Neil Picart, a local Realtor with KW Reserve Palm Beach.
Located about 18 miles from West Palm Beach, The Acreage offers equestrian-friendly properties and a laid-back lifestyle.

The Acreage allows for a variety of options
While the lots around The Acreage are similar in size, the homes that fill them are anything but. This area harbors an eclectic mix of options — some date back to the 1970s, when the community was first blooming, and there are others built across every decade since. “It’s not a builder community that was developed,” says Picart, who has almost 20 years of real estate experience. “People buy their lots and contract with a builder.” Architectural styles vary, in turn, from ranch-style houses to Craftsman and Mediterranean homes. Floor plans span from about 1,000 square feet to well over 6,000 in some cases. What many of the residences across The Acreage share is a rustic atmosphere, shaped by the spacious lots. Dirt roads are a common sight, too, creating the enclave’s grid layout. The ranch- and Craftsman-style homes here can sell for prices from $385,000 to almost $900,000 based on factors like square footage and lot size, which can creep up to a couple of acres. The Mediterranean-style houses start at around $430,000 and there are options at virtually every price point up to $1.6 million for something that stretches 5,700 square feet. The crime score here is significantly better than the national average, too. “It’s a highly desirable neighborhood,” says Carrie Nettleton, a local Realtor with William Raveis. “People gravitate to The Acreage because you can get a house where you’re not right on top of the house next door, but it’s still a very welcoming community where you honestly know your neighbors.”
Some parts of The Acreage still reflect its rural character, with ranch-style homes and open fields.

Rural atmosphere still comes with access
The Acreage may have a lot of dirt roads, but it’s not as if those roads lead nowhere. Residents are close to Florida State Road 7, a stretch that can take drivers right into the heart of Royal Palm Beach and toward the assortment of commercial amenities there. Commuters can also take State Road 7 to Okeechobee Boulevard to reach Interstate 95 for trips through the rest of the state. Okeechobee features multiple stops in the area’s Palm Tran bus system, too.

Orange Boulevard offers dining and more
This area is largely residential, but locals can head over to Orange Boulevard to find a few different options for dining and shopping. There are both a Publix supermarket and a Walgreens right off Orange. The Publix anchors a shopping plaza that includes eateries like the family-owned Jabrewski’s Pizza Company, whose wings are just as popular as the pies. There’s also a steakhouse in the plaza, Lewis Prime Grill, which is liked in part for its bar. Those looking for more can head into Royal Palm Beach, and hit Royal Palm Beach Boulevard and Okeechobee Boulevard for plenty more restaurants to choose from.

Parks come aplenty around The Acreage
The Acreage’s rural atmosphere leaves room for quite a few ways to get out and enjoy some fresh air. “People also love the parks and the family-oriented nature of the neighborhood,” says Nettleton, who’s based in nearby North Palm Beach. The centerpiece is Acreage Community Park, a 25-acre expanse with multiple ball diamonds and football and soccer fields. Temple Park is another option, this one with both basketball and sand volleyball courts. Golfers, meanwhile, have plenty of nearby circuits to choose from, including the public Village Golf Club in Royal Palm Beach.
