The Hills, a planned community in Basking Ridge, is home to a network of subdivisions consisting of townhomes, condominiums and single-family houses. The neighborhood, along with its impressive properties, has an excellent school system that has been recognized by many. “The Hills has a strong sense of community and access to all you need within a few moments,” says Roseann O’Keefe, a broker associate with NextHome Premier, who has been selling real estate in the area for the last 15 years. “It has easy access to major highways, great restaurants and shopping. You can get to New York City and the Jersey Shore in an hour.”

From condominiums to sprawling new traditional homes
In the Hills, various developers built all of the subdivision’s homes between the 90s to the early 2000s. Home types range from 1-bedroom condominiums to sprawling 6-bedroom new traditional homes. Condominiums in the neighborhood typically sell for between $250,000 and $975,000. Townhomes sell for between $400,000 and $1.5 million. Single-family homes usually come in a new-traditional style and have been sold for between the mid $800,000s and $1.9 million. “It’s very desirable,” says Kimberly Kelly, a Realtor with eXp Realty. “Plenty of buyers want to be in that community.” While most subdivision streets have sidewalks, due to the spacious nature of the neighborhood, most residents use cars to get from place to place. As for crime, the CAP Index gave the neighborhood a Crime Score of 2 out of 10, well below the national average.

Well-regarded Bernards Township School District
The Hills is home to Mount Prospect Elementary, part of the Bernards Township School District. At Mount Prospect, a National Blue Ribbon School, students in the fourth and fifth grades receive Spanish language instruction twice a week. The elementary school earned an A grade from Niche, including an A-plus for academics, an A for teachers and a B-plus for diversity. From Mount Prospect, students move on to William Annin Middle School, which earns an A grade from Niche. From there, students move on to Ridge High School. Students can continue with Spanish or take French, Latin or Italian here. The high school, also a National Blue Ribbon School, is highly regarded, including being recognized by Niche as one of the state's top 25 high schools. Ridge High received an overall A-plus grade from Niche.

They also have a clubhouse for events. For residents looking to go for a long run or a bike ride, the Bedminster Township Hike and Bike Trail provides visitors with 6.5 miles of paved trail.

Centrally located between two interstates
Residents of the Hills are centrally located right between Interstate 78 and Interstate 287, providing them with accessible routes to get to Newark and beyond. Newark is a 31-mile drive, while Manhattan is 45 miles away. Locals can also use the Somerset County shuttle system to get to the New Brunswick NJ Transit Rail station to get to Newark. The Newark Liberty International Airport is a 31-mile drive from the neighborhood. The nearest hospital is the Hunterdon Medical Center, 18 miles away.
Somerset Hills YMCA hosts community events
“The Somerset Hills YMCA is right down the road and hosts various events,” O’Keefe says. The YMCA hosts events from Easter Egg Hunts to American Red Cross Blood Drives.
New Jersey National Golf Club provides a golf option for The Hills
For those looking to play a round of golf, the New Jersey National Golf Club might be the spot. The club and 18-hole course are private and for members only. While the course and club are private, the restaurant attached to it, the Red Oak Grille, which offers excellent course views, is open to the public. The restaurant also provides reservations for private parties and events.
