The Haven at York Street
Dense neighborhood with early 21st-century Traditionals
A brick monument sign with the neighborhood’s name etched beside a leaf greets those entering the Haven from York Street. The entrance, further marked by a narrow and grassy median with trees and small bushes, leads prospective buyers to a neighborhood filled with Traditional homes dating back to the 2000s. Most homes occupy compact and neatly manicured lots no larger than a quarter-acre. With size and conditions playing some part, single-family homes here can go from about $600,000 to nearly $900,000.Shopping, dining and burning off energy at Denver Premium Outlets
The Denver Premium Outlets is an open-air mall with stores from brands like Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, Nike and Adidas. Amenities include open seating areas with water fountains, a playground with hanging pods and an indoor dining court called the Food Pavilion. Dining options include Tacos Los Nortenos, which serves authentic Mexican street fare, and Sachi Sushi Denver. The Japanese restaurant is easy to spot with its outdoor patio, which features statues of two red sumo wrestlers. The outlets neighbor another open mall called the Orchard Town Center, where popular local staples include 3 Margaritas and Law’s Chophouse. Hernandez praises 3 Margaritas’ food and calls the location “probably the most beautiful” of all the ones across greater Denver. “It’s a super authentic experience,” she says, adding the restaurant is also ideal for large parties.
Big box stores in the area include Target and Walmart.
Leagues and special nights at Thorncreek Golf Course
In addition to the pocket parks, one of the nearest recreational sites is the Northern Lights Ball Fields. While the complex is a destination for Little League games, it contains a baseball-themed playground with structures providing shade to both playing children and parents looking on. The ball fields are down the road from the public Thorncreek Golf Course and its 18-hole playing grounds. The course offers deals for players looking to play nine- or 18-hole rounds. Thorncreek also hosts activities like ladies’ leagues and weekly couples golf nights during the spring and summer.Served by strong Adams County schools
The community is home to Silver Creek Elementary School, which receives an A-minus from Niche. Since opening in 2006, Silver Creek has earned a variety of academic awards, including multiple John Irwin School of Excellence Awards before and after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Silver Creek has also received recognition in other areas like health fitness, and its extracurriculars include a running club. Its students may then attend Rocky Top Middle School and Mountain Range High School, which respectively get B-plus and B grades from Niche.Celebrating July 4 in Thornton
The neighborhood is only a few miles from several annual Thornton events, like the July 4 celebration in Carpenter Park. Prior to the signature fireworks show, the many attendees can enjoy various foods and visit some beer gardens while listening to live music. The event also features a parachutist demonstration.“Huge asset” in E-470 toll road
The neighborhood is a short distance south of the E-470 toll road. “Denver has fantastically horrible traffic. If you can get on that toll road and afford to use it, it’s definitely going to save a lot of brain damage for you,” Hernandez says. “I don’t live all that convenient to that toll road, but if I did, I would hop on that regularly. It’s a huge, huge asset to be near that.”The neighborhood is also a few minutes east of Interstate 25, which goes straight toward downtown Denver, about 17 miles south. Located about 24 miles southeast, the Denver International Airport is the area’s hub for commercial flights. The CommonSpirit St. Anthony North Hospital is the nearest major medical institution.
