Southern Summerfield bungalows and northern new traditional homes
The southern half of Southview includes the planned 55-and-up Summerfield community, which is anchored by the Summerfield Golf Course. The community’s civic association fees cover access to an extensive list of amenities, including the community’s clubhouse, game rooms, a wellness and fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool as well as tennis and pickleball courts. Housing options include apartments, condominiums, townhouses, an all-inclusive retirement community and single-family houses. Two-bedroom bungalows built in the early 1970s in cheery shades of vinyl—some with views of the golf course greens—cost between $475,000 and $550,000, while larger homes with three bedrooms can go for between $600,000 and $715,000.The northern portion of the neighborhood—which is not part of the Summerfield community—largely consists of two-level, new traditional homes from the 1980s and 1990s. These homes often perch on generous lots with room for additional dwelling units, recreational vehicle parking and sheds, fetching between $615,000 and $815,000.
Biannual productions at Northwest Senior Theater
For over thirty years, the Northwest Senior Theater has been empowering people 55 and up to continue the theatrical and performing arts. The theater presents two productions a year, with multiple matinee performances of each.Laps and water aerobics at Tigard Swim Center
One of the focal points of the Summerfield community is its golf course. The nine-hole course, with tree-lined fairways and two water fountains, wraps around a pocket of single-family homes that belong to the community. However, non-residents of the community may also use the course with green fees of around $40. Swimmers can take laps in the Tigard Swim Center’s 25-yard, six-lane heated indoor pool. Daily admission rates also include swimming lessons and aerobic exercise classes, and discounted rates for those 65 and older. At East Butte Heritage Park, looming pines surround a small playground—which includes baby swings for younger children—and paths sprinkled with blooming flowers lead to the historic John Tigard House, built by the city’s founding family.Community Experience for Career Exploration at Tigard High
Children in Southview may begin their education at James Templeton Elementary School, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche. Afterward, they may continue their studies at A-rated Twality Middle School before potentially finishing at Tigard High School, which maintains an A-minus as well. The high school offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, as well as stand-alone courses students can take to earn early college credit. The Community Experience for Career Exploration program—widely known as (CE)2—connects students with local internship opportunities and allows them to apply their working hours toward graduation credits.Tigard neighborhood situated along Pacific Highway
Pacific Highway runs along the west side of Southview, which is also close to two other major thoroughfares. Interstate 5 is less than 4 miles from the neighborhood, and it connects residents to downtown Portland. The Beaverton-Tigard Highway is also nearby, though commuters can take the TriMet Westside Express Service (WES) commuter rail north to Beaverton—or south toward Tualatin and Wilsonville—from the Tigard Transit Center, just northeast of the neighborhood. TriMet buses stop along Pacific Highway and Southwest Hall Boulevard, the neighborhood’s eastern border.Authentic Mexican cuisine at a traditional Irish pub
Two of the neighborhood’s restaurants surround a Safeway in the southwest of Southview. Wu’s Open Kitchen specializes in Chinese Szechuan and Hunan cuisine, where the elegant tablecloths and chandeliers of the dining room are separated from the hustle and noise of the kitchen by a panoramic glass window. Nearby, J. B. O’Brien’s Irish Pub & Sports Bar creates an authentic experience—dark walls covered with drinking memorabilia create the impression that it’s always the evening, welcoming regulars who come in every week. Bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew and shepherd’s pie are all on the menu, as well as authentic Mexican plates; the chef and his wife come from Mexico. Trader Joe’s and a Grocery Outlet can be found along Pacific Highway.
