DeVeux offers a slice of suburbia in West Toledo

Developed in the first half of the 20th century, West Toledo's DeVeux neighborhood retains many of the hallmarks of 1950s suburbia: a mix of housing styles, neighborhood parks and direct access to downtown. Over time, shopping and entertainment options, including award-winning Metroparks Toledo, have established themselves in and around the neighborhood, creating a family-friendly community. Inside the neighborhood, narrow streets lined with sidewalks shaded by mature trees encourage neighborhood walks and bike rides. “This is a great place for starter homes,” says Beth Damasco with Key Realty and a Toledo resident for 40 years.

The age of the neighborhood determines the prices of homes

Classic, 20th-century homes dating as far back as the 1920s populate the neighborhood. Bungalows, American Foursquares, Tudors and Cape Cods are the most prominent architectural styles. Garages and driveways are common, keeping the streets relatively clear, but some residents still use street parking. Most lots are less than an eighth of an acre but are suitable for a small garden. Due to the neighborhood's age, homes are in various conditions, and prices vary. Those needing significant attention and renovation sell for $25,000 to $90,000, while move-in ready homes range in price from $100,000 to $285,000. Some townhouses and condos are available, which sell for $70,000 to $280,000 depending on size.
