Homes from the ‘40s through the ‘60s
Narrow streets are lined with bungalows, Cape Cods, ranch-style and traditional homes on lots that run about ¼ acre, some a bit larger. Many of the houses were built from the 1940s through the '60s and sell for between $58,000 and $349, 000. Paved or loosely graveled driveways have room for up to two cars or a single car and a boat; many homes include renovated kitchens and flooring with new roofing and siding.Boating, golfing and dancing
Oak savannas, dry prairies and wet sedge meadows are natural features of Cullen Park, an official stop on the Great Lake Erie Birding Trail (along with Bay View Park). Here, residents launch their boats and kayaks into Lake Erie and catch trout or bass from its docks; locals hike the park's mile-long dirt-packed causeway trail and herons fly low over the water. At Detwiler Park's 18-hole golf course, members can get advice from a PGA professional, then head to Point Place Boat Club to join a dock party or watch the sunset over the lake. Marinas include the New Harrison Marina, Inc. and Bush Marine. Locals can get a scenic ride in the 100-passenger Sandpiper Boat on the Maumee River. Seniors can enjoy card games and a free daily lunch at the Friendship Park Community Center. "Bingo is fun for the whole family," says Carol McDole, coordinator the center. Point Place Lighthouse is in Bay View Park at the site where the Lake Erie Amusement Park and Casino used to be. Much of Bay View Park is undeveloped and fishing is permitted along the shore. The site also features a 1.25-mile gravel trail.Careers in Tech
Point Place is served by the Toledo City School District, which offers open enrollment. Students can walk to and/or start their education journey at Edgewater Elementary and move on to Washington Junior High, both of which have C grades from Niche. The C-plus-rated Woodward High offers Career Tech Education programs in diesel technology, graphic design and printing and supply chain management.Drive, take the bus or share a ride
The JEEP plant is nearby, providing employment for many residents. Point Place is 6 miles north of downtown, taking local streets. Interstate 75 bisects the neighborhood. For public transportation, Point Place employs Toledo's TARTA Transit Hub bus system; services include mobility assistance programs and ride-sharing with TARTA Flex. St. Vincent Medical Center Emergency Department is a 7-mile trip to the southwest, and the Toledo Express Airport is a 25-mile drive on Ohio State Route 2.Dine out or pick up fresh cut meats
Mayfly Tavern offers weekly specials like barbecue chicken pizza and pastrami sandwiches paired with steak fries; with a frosty brew, locals sit on the back patio and gaze at the water or head inside to watch their favorite NFL team. The River Diner is a local staple for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anchor Inn is the place to go for kielbasa burgers while playing pool and listening to live music. Lee Williams House of Meats is locally renowned for its fresh-cut beef, pork, chicken and seafood. Kroger is on Suder Avenue, just off Interstate 75.
