Scott Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Toledo, Ohio
Lucas County 43607, 43615
Investors interested and homeowners abound
Although mainly homeowners live in Scott Park, it's also a hub for renters. "There are a lot of investors interested in student housing there," Realtor Justin Spann of Key Realty, who's sold in the area, says. "I'd definitely say The University of Toledo is a big factor in attracting people to the area." Investment properties range from $40,000 to $60,000. Homes in the $70,000 to $150,000 range come in ranch, bungalow and bi-level styles. Residences sit along very narrow but leafy streets surrounding a sizeable industrial hub at the neighborhood's center. Various houses of worship are also found throughout the community; Catholic and Protestant churches are interspersed, while the Buddhist Temple of Toledo sits in the northwest. The Toledo Muslim Community Center is located at the neighborhood's center.Trout Day at Sleepy Hollow Park
Despite its name, Scott Park has limited park space, but a few options exist. On the west side, there's the pond at Sleepy Hollow Park, where the neighborhood's annual Trout Day is held. In the southeast, Casey Jones Park gives basketballers and kids alike a place to play. A little over 2 miles north is Toledo's largest regional park, Ottawa Park, which holds amenities like an amphitheater, an ice-skating rink, a golf course and the Toledo Police Museum. The university and early education
Scott Park sits directly below The University of Toledo, which earns a B rating from Niche and is in the top 10 public universities in Ohio. Early education includes Keyser Elementary School, which offers pre-kindergarten through eighth grade education, followed by Rogers High School. Both schools earn a C-minus, and Rogers High offers a variety of advanced academics, including AVID, Career Tech education and College Credit Plus.Games at the Glass Bowl
Sports at The University of Toledo keep excitement alive in Scott Park, but baseball fans can enjoy their favorite pastime at the Scott Park Sports Complex, home to the Toledo Rockets baseball and softball teams. Football fans can watch all the area's NCAA Division 1 action at the 26,038 capacity Glass Bowl, and Toledo basketball fans pack the 7,014 capacity Savage Arena.Lots of public transit and avenues heading to downtown
"People rely more on driving and bus transit in Scott Park," Spann says. "With the exception of the plazas, there's not a lot of places to walk to outside The University of Toledo." Dorr Street and Nebraska Avenue offer quick routes in Downtown Toledo, with the average commute being under 5 miles. U.S. State Route 24 is the closest major highway, which cuts into the neighborhood's southeastern portion. Many bus stops are strung along four-lane roads like Hill Avenue, North Westwood Avenue and North Byrne Road. For long-distance travel, Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport is 12 miles away.Good eats at the plazas
"There are lots of small businesses and restaurants here," Powell says. "A lot of little plazas for local business owners." Netty's serves up scoops of ice cream and self-proclaims as selling the best chili dogs in town. This walk-up and drive-through establishment is only open from March to October. For international variety, residents can visit family-owned Little Asia, snack on bento boxes at Rice Blvd or enjoy specialties like the Birria Pizza at El Viejon Mexican Street Tacos. For a quick pick-me-up, there's BREW Coffee Bar next door to Rice Blvd. Inside the Five Brewing, also known as the Fieldhouse, is a fairly new addition to the neighborhood and doubles as a brewhouse and taproom. Various convenience stores keep a ready stock of small items. Still, residents drive around 2-1/2 miles outside the neighborhood to shop at Save A Lot.
