Tomah has great proximity to manufacturing, distribution and military bases
A small Wisconsin town surrounded by distribution and manufacturing hubs, Tomah offers plenty of job opportunities with relatively affordable housing options. The community also has a strong military presence due to its proximity to Fort McCoy, an Army Reserve base, and Volk Field Air National Guard Base. As folks have moved here for employment, the community has come together. “It’s just a decent tight-knit community,” says Aaron Stockwell, a Tomah resident and real estate agent at VIP Realty with 20 years of experience. Tomah’s Main Street-style downtown is a major gathering spot year-round with plenty of shops and a summer concert series, and locals can enjoy the outdoors at Lake Tomah.

A variety of housing styles dating back to the 1890s
Craftsman homes and Cape Cods from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are clustered around the center of town, with midcentury ranch-style homes becoming more common as development moved outward. Some 21st-century New Traditional builds are on Lake Tomah’s northeast side. Some older properties have been converted into duplexes over the years. Most homes range from $100,000 to $550,000, depending on lot size and condition. Manufactured homes and fixer-uppers often sell for below $100,000.

In the winter, locals can go skating or play ice hockey at the Tomah Ice Center, which is open from September to June. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also popular hobbies during the snowy season, especially along the Tomah Recreation Trail, and Whitetail Ski Ridge is less than 15 miles away.
