Centrally located residential community
Southwood Sunray is a middle-class residential community that reflects the suburban character of much of Torrance. The neighborhood is close to major arterial roads like Sepulveda and Hawthorne, making it easy to navigate around the South Bay area. Despite its proximity to central Torrance and the sprawling Del Amo Fashion Center, Southwood Sunray's residential blocks are relatively self-contained, limiting exposure to traffic and noise. The neighborhood’s modest lot sizes and car-centric infrastructure contribute to a quiet, suburban atmosphere, making for a fairly typical example of a residential enclave in the South Bay region. “The mall is close, downtown Torrance is close,” says local Realtor Carol Gilles of Fredericks Realty, who has been selling homes in the area for over 30 years. “And you can walk to the parks when you want to get outside. It’s convenient, is what it is.”
Torrance is home to Del Amo Fashion Center, a three-level mall opened in 1959.
