Follow the railroad to Trainer and take advantage of all the amenities it has to offer. “It’s a close-knit community and there's a nice big park within walking distance,” says Carol Jones, a local Realtor who has been in the real estate business for over 20 years. “The location is great too. It’s really convenient to the main railroad and I-95 so you can easily get to Philly, DC and New York. You could walk to the state of Delaware actually, and there’s tax-free shopping over there so people tend to head that way to get their shopping done, myself included.”

In Trainer, you’ll find mostly rowhomes and duplexes, with some bungalow options as well. Homes range in price from $70,000 to $235,000 and can be anywhere from 800 to 2,100 square feet in size. There are both more established and newly constructed options, with build dates that range from the early 1900s to the early 2000s. Joggers and dog walkers can enjoy sidewalks shaded by mature trees.

Students in Trainer can attend Linwood Elementary School, which received a C rating from Niche and serves about 250 students with a student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1. Chichester Middle School received a C rating from Niche and offers an impressive collection of athletic programs like cross country, football and volleyball. Chichester Senior High School received a C-plus rating from Niche and encourages its students to participate in the AP program to earn college credit.

Get some fresh air at Market Square Memorial Park, which sits on the Delaware Riverfront and gives visitors the chance to enjoy a scenic walk along the water, watching the ships while their little ones explore the playground. Henry Johnson Park is another option with a paved walking trail through beautiful, heavily wooded rolling hills.

Hungry? Grab a bite from Seafood Connection, the place to be for hot seafood dishes like steamed platters with crab, shrimp and more. Peruse their market for a salty catch to take home for dinner. If you’re craving homestyle dishes and big portions, head to Sungate Diner. Fill up on one of their classic plates like corned beef sandwiches and pork chops with a side of French onion soup. Chi Cafe is known for its breakfast selections that have all the necessities covered, like eggs, sausage, potatoes and bacon. Order some Chinese takeout from Great Wall Chinese Food where the General Tso’s chicken is to die for, or stop for a drink at the Thirsty Bulldog Grill. For something sweet, Blue Cherry Ice Cream is a local favorite thanks to its large portions, fair prices and fun family atmosphere. Residents can grab their groceries from the Produce Junction, which has been family-owned since 1977 and has everything from fruits to veggies to flowers.

If you’ve been bitten by the shopping bug, head on over to Willowbrook Shopping Center. Or if you’re headed out of the neighborhood, take advantage of the convenient SETPA Station. Easy access to I-95 gives residents additional opportunities to explore what's nearby and take advantage of all the additional amenities.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
