Treasure Lake offers a waterfront community and "relaxed atmosphere"
For decades, Treasure Lake has drawn those seeking privacy, waterfront living and convenient access to various outdoor activities. Located just north of the small Appalachian city of Dubois , this gated and almost entirely residential community is named after one of two reservoirs. The community is home to just over 5,000 people, many of whom do anything from daily neighborhood walks and playing golf on hilly, forest-lined fairways to spending weekends drifting the waters on a catamaran or sailboat. “It has a very relaxed atmosphere and a beautiful lake. If I could live anywhere in Pennsylvania, it would be in Treasure Lake,” says Carol Foltz, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Developac Realty. “The people that are there are very friendly, and it’s just a really nice community.”
Houses range from ranch-style to upscale contemporary homes
Homes here were mainly built between the 1970s and today. Woods surround many homes, and wandering deer occasionally visit residents’ yards. Several residents who live along the lakes have private docks that give them convenient access to the water. Treasure Lake’s housing includes Colonial Revivals, New Traditionals and a mix of 20th-century and newly added ranch-style homes. Other houses include log cabins and luxury lodge-style homes with spacious second-floor balconies. “It’s very eclectic. There is no cookie-cutter community in Treasure Lake,” Foltz says. “It’s not unusual to find a 1970s chalet next to a 2020s two-story home.” A few homes under 2,000 square feet and with less than half-acre lots may sell from $140,000 to $200,000. Homes with larger footprints and lots can go from $310,000 to $490,000. Buyers can expect monthly HOA fees of about $120 to $480.
Community offers a diverse range of outdoor activities
Treasure Lake spans about 380 acres, and its amenities include a marina with numerous rental slips for avid boaters who want to get on the water freely and easily. While Treasure Lake allows paddling and tubing, its size makes it a speedboating, jet skiing and water skiing destination. The smaller Bimini Lake draws many kayakers and limits the type of motor boats allowed on its waters. Those going out on the lakes to fish will find plenty of bass, northern pike and catfish. The community has another small fishing pond, Little Flipper Lake, which is popular among younger anglers. Those looking for off-water activities may stop by the tennis courts or play some rounds at the community’s two public 18-hole courses. “There’s a lot to do, if you want to,” Foltz says. “And if you don’t want to do anything, you can just sit down and enjoy the natural beauty of it all.”
Restaurants provide bar fare, beer and sports
The community has a few restaurants near its homes and amenities. Located on one of Treasure Lake’s two golf courses, 19th Hole Tavern allows players to cool off and grab some pizza, a hard seltzer or a beer. Duffers’ Tavern has burgers, chicken wings and more beer, and many also go there to watch sports. Swimmers looking to grab a quick bite and a soda may stop by the Poolside Bar & Grill, near the Lakeview Lodge Pool. For their shopping needs, residents may go to Walmart right outside DuBois. Other chains in that area include Lowe’s Home Improvement and Five Below.
Dubois schools provide public education
Students here may start at Oklahoma Elementary School, which receives a B-plus from Niche. They may then go to DuBois Area middle and high schools. The middle school gets a B-minus, while the high school receives a B. DuBois Area High’s athletic program includes a girls tennis squad that won a district title in 2025. Students interested in going into a trade after graduation may take courses and get some training in fields like welding and computer network engineering.
Events include the Independence Day celebration
Treasure Lake hosts several holiday and seasonal celebrations throughout the year. In July, the community puts on a fireworks show over the lake during its annual Independence Day Celebration. Throughout the day, residents may go to the Lakeview Lodge & Conference Center to eat, listen to live music and do other activities like letting their children get balloon animals.
Community is close to DuBois and its hospital
Commuters here drive and have quick access to Interstate 80. Treasure Lake is less than 10 miles north of the DuBois area, where many go for medical care. Penn Highlands DuBois is one of the nearest hospitals and provides services like emergency care. For air travel, many go to the State College Regional Airport, about 70 miles east.
Area receives winter snowfall
Like much of the region, Treasure Lake gets just over 40 inches of snow annually. However, that amount is nearly double other areas like Philadelphia .
