Valley View Park hosts various events, such as a Father’s Day breakfast and the Annual Apple Festival, which features all sorts of homemade apple treats by local vendors. Movie nights are also a tradition at the local gathering place. “We have a legacy of coal mining, and old miners took their cameras into the mines and filmed what they were doing, so we have movie nights where people show their films,” Williams says. “There’s also a Christmas in the park program where there’s a tree-decorating contest for the best-looking Christmas tree, cookie making and horse-drawn wagon rides. Santa also comes to the park to take pictures with kids, and local church groups sing carols.” About less than 1 mile east, the neighboring borough of Hegins has a namesake park with events such as the Hegins Valley Arts & Crafts Faire and the Hegins Valley Shine, Wine and Brews.Valley View Park is the hotspot for local events
Located directly to the south, Valley View Park is the gathering place for cultural and outdoor events in the community. In addition to having two playgrounds, those who are big music fans can expect numerous concerts planned throughout the year. “We have oldies bands that come out and perform at the park,” Williams says. “The local citizens love music, and there’s always interaction between the crowd and the performers.” Aside from the park being a popular venue for both public and private events, community celebrations such as the annual Easter egg hunt also take place at the community park. “Our laws from the 1940s stated that this park is not meant to be used for money-making ways, so the park is supported by donations from the local people and organizations,” Williams says. Hegins Park, which is several blocks east, has a baseball field for games and open green space for people to walk around. The Tri-Valley Community Pool sits adjacent to Hegins Park and is open to the public in the summer season. Locals can purchase a seasonal pass, and water aerobics sessions are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. About a block south, Stutzman Field is another baseball field popular for Little League games and practices. Those who like water activities can drive 17 miles southeast to Sweet Arrow Lake County Park for fishing, kayaking and boating. The county park also has a disc golf course and trails for hikes.Community service at Tri-Valley Junior/Senior High
