Trowbridge Park offers nature trails and convenient shopping

Arguably one of the most popular places to live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Trowbridge Park, known locally as 'Trowb,' is an outer suburb of Marquette, a bayside city known for its rocky shores and lighthouses on Lake Superior. About 3 miles west of downtown, this community has a suburban atmosphere with single-family homes surrounded by scenic nature trails and convenient shopping centers. "It's an amazing place, and I wouldn't hesitate to move there," says Jason Copeman, a broker associate at Copeman REalty who has sold houses in Marquette for over 30 years. "There are all sorts of walking trails and biking trails. You are five minutes from the movie theater and the Dead River waterfalls."

Secluded homes sit on spacious wooded lots

In Trowbridge Park, secluded houses rest on spacious lots under a canopy of mature deciduous forests and balsam firs. This area mainly includes a collection of contemporary and ranch-style homes, ranging from $120,000 to $530,000. Prices are slightly higher in Trowbridge Park compared to the Marquette metro because of its convenient and accessible location. "Trowbridge Park is more wooded and has more space," Copeman says. "It has a slightly different feel. There are not a lot of sidewalks, but the traffic is not heavy, so people can bike and walk their dogs."

Because of Marquette's geography, this area is one of the snowiest in the United States, receiving nearly 150 inches of snow each year. It also experiences below-freezing temperatures, with average winter lows in the single digits.

Nearby beaches and waterfall hiking trails

Residents have easy access to the Noquemanon North Trails, which include over 30 miles of trails used for mountain biking, hiking or snowshoeing. Lions Park has a baseball diamond and an outdoor ice rink. Only about 4 miles east, Presque Isle Park offers sandy beaches and rocky shoreline by Lake Superior's clear-blue water. Also nearby, a shady walking trail leads to Wright Street Falls, which has waterfalls on the Dead River. "People can go hiking up and down the Dead River Falls," Copeman says. "It's the most beautiful falls hike that I know of. It is a series of falls one after another. You can easily ride a bike there."

Shopping and dining options are close to Trowbridge Park

Trowbridge Park is one of the most convenient locations in Marquette Township, close to box stores, restaurants and the Marquette Cinemas movie theater. About a mile southeast, stores like Target, Lowe's and Walmart Supercenter are on U.S. Highway 41. This area also features supermarkets like Meijer and Super One Foods. One of its local eateries is Rose's Dugout, which serves pizza and pub food in a divey sports bar with pool tables. Hudson's Classic Grill & Bar is a popular steak and seafood restaurant. "The west side of the neighborhood has a lot of big box stores, restaurants and a movie theater," Copeman says. "You can easily go to dinner and a movie."

Sandy Knoll and Marquette Senior High both earn A-minus

Over 3,000 students attend the Marquette Area Public Schools District. The School of Choice program allows students, excluding first graders, to participate in other Marquette schools outside their designated residential zone. Sandy Knoll Elementary School offers a before-and after-school program with student activities, such as craft making and board games. Marquette Senior High School serves grades 7-12, and it is a dual enrollment school with a career center that offers hands-on business, finance and technology coursework. Both schools earn an A-minus grade from Niche. Northern Michigan University is about 2 miles east.

US-41 connects residents to downtown and nearby cities

The Marq-Tran bus provides public transit to Trowbridge Park, stopping on Commerce Drive. Residents have direct access to US-41, one of the Upper Peninsula’s most essential highways. Ishpeming is another community around 14 miles west. The nearest emergency room is Peninsula Medical Center on Fair Avenue. Approximately 20 miles south, the Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport offers direct passenger flights to Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit.
