Diverse homes and price points in Troy
About 60 miles from St. Louis, Troy offers traditional- and ranch-style homes on properties anywhere from a quarter of an acre to four acres. In the subdivisions closest to downtown, narrow sidewalks line the quiet streets, adding connectivity between homes despite the neighborhood’s quaint country feel. Though established houses in the community date back to the early 1900s, recently built homes are also popping up, like those in Stonebridge and Kensington. “A standard house with three beds, two baths and a two-car garage around $215,000 to $220,000 is probably going to be 15 to 20 years old, and then anything like new construction will be anywhere from 1,500 to 1,600 square feet and $250,000 to $450,000. Once you get out farther, if you’re on acreage, that’ll change the price,” Wren explains.Heading outdoors in Troy's neighborhood parks
Recreational opportunities close to home continue to expand as Troy’s population grows. Kiwanis Park is a walkable option for those living close to downtown. Home to a recently installed playground, walking trails and a new splash pad, the park includes modern equipment and recreational opportunities for all ages. Though no sports courts are available, there is ample green space to explore and a small lake for wading through. Avery Park provides another option with comparable amenities, just steps from the Troy Aquatic Center and Fairgrounds Park. For golf lovers in the area, Woods Fort Golf Course sits less than 2 miles north of central downtown and includes a tree-lined fairway with rolling hills and small ponds weaved through its course. When the weather gets too cold for outdoor adventure, residents catch the latest flicks at Troy Movie House on South Main Street.Lincoln County R-III schools close to home

From here, students transition to Troy South Middle and ultimately graduate from Troy Buchanan High, both B-graded schools. At Troy Buchanan, students can enroll in the Center for Advanced Professional Studies to gain hands-on experience with different careers or participate in after-school activities like Vex Robotics, Future Farmers of America and Conservation Club.Community events in the city of Troy
The Lincoln County Fair draws in locals every summer for carnival rides, livestock auctions, nightly entertainment and tractor pulls. For the rest of the year, the city hosts several events in the historic downtown area, including “Night of a Thousand Stars, an annual car show and a little fall festival,” Wren says.

Finding the essentials in town proves simple with a Walmart Supercenter, Aldi and Kroger located off Route 47. For a traditional mall, Meadows at Lake Saint Louis has shops like Old Navy, Chico’s and LOFT, about 20 miles away.
