Daniel Farm District
Neighborhood in Trumbull, Connecticut
Fairfield County 06611
Colonial Revivals and farmhouses with lush yards
Peaceful residential streets extend off Daniels Farm Road and wind through the Connecticut forests. "The taxes are a little higher there since there's a majority of houses and not many businesses. If you're looking to the area, you really value having the space and nature," says Paula Bachman, broker/owner at Property Choices Real Estate, who grew up in Trumbull. While houses aren’t on large parcels of land, most properties have spacious, well-maintained yards. Homes built in the 1970s and 80s appear in ranch, Cape Cod and Colonial Revival designs — prices start around $450,000 and increase to $800,000. Newly built farmhouse-inspired designs are priced between $1 million and $1.4 million.A BMX course, playground and sports fields at Indian Ledge Park
Indian Ledge Park features a BMX course and multiple athletic fields, including a turf soccer field and a lighted softball field. Pets run around the dog park, and families can have a picnic as their kids climb on the playground. During the summer, locals cool off at the Robert G. Beach Memorial Pool, and members of the Pinewood Lake Association can swim at the lake’s sand beach or go boating and fishing on the water. As its name implies, Old Mine Park was once a prospecting and mining site, but now it's a popular picnicking spot where hikers and bikers meet up at the 5-mile Housatonic Rail Trail.Students attend A-rated schools
Students attend Trumbull Public Schools; the district has an overall A rating from Niche. “People move to the area because of the exceptional schools,” Egmont says. “The high school even has an agricultural program.” Kids can attend Daniels Farm School for elementary school and progress to Hillcrest Middle. Older students can advance to Trumbull High, where they can enroll in the Regional Agriscience and Biotechnology program, a STEM program with a focus on biotechnology and animal sciences. All three schools earn As from Niche.Fall festivities at Plasko’s
Freshly brewed coffee and homemade ice cream are available year-round at Plasko's, but the community also looks forward to seasonal events at the family-operated business on Daniels Farm Road. As Connecticut’s foliage turns bright amber and crimson, residents can brave the farm’s intricate 4.5-acre corn maze. Afterward, they can reward themselves with an apple cider donut and hayride. During the holiday season, the farm also has freshly cut pine trees and wreaths. In June, the town congregates behind Hillcrest Middle School for Trumbull Day, a festival jam-packed with activities like carnival rides, food trucks, live music and fireworks.Commuters drive to train stations and major interstates
Though Trumbull is about 65 miles from Manhattan, many will still commute to New York City, at least on a hybrid basis. "Most people will drive to a train station to commute because the commuter rails are faster than being stuck in lines of traffic," Bachman says. The Bridgeport train station, where passengers board the New Haven line on the Metro-North Railroad, is about 8 miles south of Daniel Farm District. Trains take about an hour and a half to arrive at Grand Central Terminal. Residents can also drive on State Route 25, which runs through the neighborhood, to connect with major interstates. New Haven is about 20 miles northeast.Fresh ice cream and coffee from Plasko's Farm Creamery & Café
Plasko's Farm Creamery & Café is a neighborhood mainstay, located on Daniels Farm Road. Patrons stop by to grab a coffee and pastry in the morning, or to treat themselves to a cup of homemade ice cream in the evening. There aren't any other restaurants in the neighborhood, but Trumbull's Main Street in Long Hill is a mile west. Local eatery Italian Corner Deli by Massimo serves pizza and Italian sandwiches, and Old Towne Restaurant offers classic American fare in a comfortable atmosphere. Residents go grocery shopping at Stop and Shop, but from May to October, they can also find fresh produce and local goods at the Trumbull Farmers Market, which is held on Thursday afternoons at Twin Brooks Park. Shoppers drive 5 miles to the Trumbull Mall to wander the aisles at retailers like Target, Sephora and JCPenney.
