Tucson’s Affluent El Encanto Estates provides many conveniences
El Encanto Estates was first developed in the 1920s by wealthy landowners who had been involved in ranching, banking, law and the automobile industry. Their mark is still seen today through this Tucson neighborhood’s luxury Southwestern homes. In addition to living in an affluent community, residents are close to chain big box stores, a signature city park and a diverse mix of restaurants and bars. “They [residents] don’t have to cross any major roads to go to Home Depot, In-N-Out Burger and the movie theater,” says Tony Ray Baker, a Realtor with Re/Max Professionals. “There’s a lot next to El Encanto.” The neighborhood is located along East Broadway Boulevard, which provides a straight route to downtown Tucson, less than 5 miles west. “This is a cool way to live close to downtown and the freeway, but far enough to not also be in that city activity,” Baker says.
The neighborhood has luxury Southwestern homes and condos
Many homes in El Encanto are along roads with no sidewalks, and the neighborhood has a few distinct diagonal streets. Plants surrounding homes range from shrubs like barrel cacti and yucca bushes to tall, lanky palms. El Encanto’s housing includes Spanish Revival, Territorial Revival, ranch-style homes and mid-century moderns. “It’s pretty eclectic in there,” Baker says. “But they really try to keep things true to their original appearance.” Lot size is a key cost factor, and several homes on a third of an acre or less can sell from $330,000 to $600,000. A few homes with half-acre lots may go from $750,000 to $990,000, while a home over 3,500 square feet can fetch nearly $2 million. Depending on size, condos go from $170,000 to $290,000.
Nearby eateries have pizzas, Italian dining and craft cocktails
Nearby staples include Barrio Bread, popular for its artisan loaves made with grains exclusively sourced from the Sonoran Desert. The locally-owned bakery belongs to a James Beard Award winner who marks his signature breads with the state of Arizona and the region’s iconic saguaro cactus. Falora Pizza serves brick oven pies, which patrons may pair with a wine from the Aridus Vineyard or an ale from Tucson’s Dragoon Brewing Co. Locale Neighborhood Italian Restaurant offers some fine dining with options like herb-topped spaghetti with clams and tiramisu. SideCar offers a late-night hangout and a place for many to catch up over drinks. “They make amazing little craft cocktails to die for,” Baker says. “There is a lot of really good stuff there.” Walmart and Target in the El Con Center offer retail and grocery shopping options.
The neighborhood is across the road from a signature Tucson park
Gene C. Reid Park has many amenities across its nearly 160 acres. The park has biking and walking paths, including some that wind around one of its tree-lined ponds in the Barnum Hill area. Miko’s Corner Playground Dog Park provides a large dirt lot for pets to roam and play, while a prominent outdoor stage hosts a variety of live music shows. Visitors to the Reid Park Zoo may see animals ranging from peacocks and flamingos to giant tortoises and large mammals like elephants and giraffes. Other park attractions include the public 18-hole Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course and Hi Corbett Field, home of University of Arizona baseball.
Students may attend well-rated Tucson schools
Students here may start at Sam Hughes Elementary School, which receives a B-plus from Niche. Other schools serving this area include Mansfeld Middle and University High. Mansfeld Middle gets a B-minus, while University High receives an A-plus. The high school’s academic successes include its math club winning a state championship in 2025. During the same year, 16 University High students were National Merit Scholarship finalists. With the Tucson Unified School District offering open enrollment, students may attend schools like Tucson High Magnet School, which gets an A-plus.
Fall Family Festival is an autumn tradition
Reid Park hosts several events, including November’s Fall Family Festival. The event’s wide range of activities includes fossil digs, pumpkin launches and yoga sessions. Attendees may listen to jazz and orchestral music and end the day by stopping by the smores bar.
Commuters have access to Sun Tran buses and East Broadway
The Sun Tran has several bus stops around the neighborhood. Commuters who drive are otherwise less than 5 miles west of Interstate 10. The neighborhood is a few miles southeast of Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, one of the nearest facilities for emergency care and surgeries. About 10 miles south, the Tucson International Airport is the region’s hub for commercial flights.
