The summit of South Tucson
Situated on the outskirts of South Tucson, Summit is a place with options. Travel north and move back into the heart of Tucson. But travel about 100 miles south and travelers find themselves in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. “Summit is an area of residential homes between Green Valley and Sahuarita along Old Nogales Highway,” says Antonio Moreno, who teams up with his wife Laura to sell homes here with RE/MAX Portfolio Homes. “It’s one of the original corridors to Mexico from Tucson. Consequently, a lot is zoned commercial.” That commercial and residential zoning provides flexibility for small business owners who need space to live where they do business without much interference. “There’s a lot of interest in Summit because the zoning allows freedom for people who don’t want to bother with HOAs. We’re starting to see people acquire the land to build their businesses," Laura explains.
If you're lucky enough to have a lakeside home, or just want to check them out, come to Summit.

Settling down in Summit
There are many manufactured or mobile homes on land here. By some estimates, as much as 70% of occupied real estate are mobile homes. “You also get a lot of the original houses that are Territorial Sonoran Design or Santa Fe-style homes. You also have a lot of acreage,” Antonio says. The median price for a single-family home is around $225,000, with most homes selling from $150,000 to $300,000. “If it’s an existing home on land, your price is about $250,000 to $300,000. If it’s new construction, it will be higher,” Antonio says.

Shopping in Summit
Typically, Summit residents head up to South Tucson or travel to Green Valley for a meal. El Patio is a popular spot, with its take on the Fajita with steak and shrimp and pico. “Literally, two people could eat off that plate,” Laura says. Walmart Supercenter is where folks can shop for groceries, or at Fry’s. There is a Safeway in Sahaurita Center, plus an open-air shopping center up the block with Ross, Dress for Less, JOANN Fabric and Crafts and Petco.
