Small yet bustling community
When driving along the Gilcrease Expressway towards the Arkansas River or taking the Sand Springs Expressway into the city, people may not realize they are passing the 378 houses that comprise the Bruner community. While living near two expressways does not exude serenity, residents appreciate the access they provide, whether they are driving to work and entertainment in Tulsa’s downtown or to community engagements at Northwest Tulsa Hub. Bruner Hill contributes to the area’s park system and provides a glimpse into the community’s history. Part of the land once belonged to William “Billy” G. Bruner, who served as “Town King” for 18 years within the tribal office. A plaque stands in his honor to tell the story of where the town gets its name.
