Driller's Landing
Suburban Neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Tulsa County 74114
Ranches and bungalows on residential roads
Wide, quiet streets lined with trees are arranged in an organic grid pattern throughout the neighborhood. Bungalows and ranch-style homes with low-pitched roofs dominate the housing stock, offering small lots, narrow fenced backyards and attached garages. Properties were built in the 1940s and 50s, but many have been renovated to include modern finishings. Since the neighborhood is less than five miles from the city center, home prices are higher than those located further from downtown. “The market can be competitive. With much of Midtown Tulsa homes, I joke that you plop the for-sale signs in the yard and wait for the fun to begin,” Kirk says. Home prices depend on renovations and size, but most are priced between $150,000 and $300,000. Since most properties are ranches and bungalows, they are smaller. Some bungalows are 1,000 square feet, and most homes are about 1,500 square feet.Year-round attractions at Expo Square
Expo Square, situated half a mile from the neighborhood, hosts Tulsa’s largest gatherings. Notable events include the Tulsa State Fair in late September, circuit horse racing throughout the year, and the OKGO Market in March, which gathers Oklahoma merchants in a convenient location. There’s also the Tulsa Flea Market, which is open periodically throughout the year and offers a wide selection of vintage and second-hand finds. Utica Square, a shopping and gathering center two miles west of the neighborhood, hosts seasonal events. Summer’s Fifth Night has free live music on Thursdays during the summer, and Lights On kicks off the holiday season with an illumination display and carolers.Career technology courses at Thomas Edison Preparatory High
Kids may begin learning at Lanier Elementary, which has a B-minus rating from Niche. Students can advance to B-rated Thomas Edison Preparatory Middle and continue learning at A-minus-rated Thomas Edison Preparatory High, which Niche ranks as the 8th best high school in the Tulsa area. The high school has a magnet program and offers numerous Advanced Placement courses. There are also career technology courses, like engineering design and fundamentals of technology, designed to prepare students for future careers.Pickup basketball games at Darlington Park
There aren’t any parks within the neighborhood, but Darlington Park is two miles southeast. Here, residents can find shaded, grassy areas with picnic tables and a children’s playground. There are also basketball and tennis courts for pickup games. Those looking for forested trails for hiking, biking and wildlife exploration can drive 10 miles south to Turkey Mountain Park.Classic burgers and pie at Brownie’s Hamburger Stand
Local eateries and shops are located along South Harvard Avenue, which runs along the neighborhood’s western edge. Brownie’s Hamburger Stand is a classic American diner serving burgers, root beer and pie. At Trenchers Delicatessen, there are large sandwiches and homemade potato chips. To shop for groceries, Aldi is two blocks south of the neighborhood. A large retail shopping center with stores like Target and Burlington is located on South Yale Avenue, a mile northeast of Driller’s Landing.Take the bus to downtown Tulsa
The Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority operates bus routes throughout Tulsa. The nearest bus stop is located on 21st Street, which is about a half-mile walk for those living in the southern portion of the neighborhood. Residential streets don’t have sidewalks, but central streets, like South Harvard Avenue and East 25th Street, have narrow sidewalks for residents. Driller’s Landing is largely car-dependent, so locals rely on their personal vehicles to run errands and commute to work. U.S. Route 64 runs along the neighborhood’s southern edge and offers passage northeast toward downtown Tulsa or southeast to connect to Interstate 44.
