Quiet living at the crossroads
Located 5 miles from Downtown Tulsa on historic Route 66 (otherwise known as 11th Street), catty-cornered from the University of Tulsa and adjacent to Expo Square, the city’s main event complex, Fair Heights is at the crossroads of many Tulsa attractions. “Route 66 was such a tourist attraction back in the day,” says Realtor Elizabeth “Libby” Beaubien with Keller Williams Advantage. Born and raised in Tulsa, Beaubien still owns the home in the neighborhood that her parents bought when they were first married. “Homes in this neighborhood are older and have a lot of character,” she says. “While the neighborhood itself is quiet, the hustle and bustle of Tulsa ran along Route 66, and Fair Heights witnessed it.” Today, the area is being revitalized and becoming more walkable with restaurants and shops.
There are many home styles available to the residents of Fair Heights.

Small, different and cute
Most homes in Fair Heights are small brick or wood-framed bungalows built in the 1930s and ’40s. “Homebuyers attracted to the neighborhood aren’t looking for big new construction,” Beaubien says. “These homes are two to three bedrooms, and each is different and cute. People take pride in their homes here. Many have lived in Fair Heights a long time and know their neighbors, which makes them feel safe.” In fact, Fair Heights has a CAP Index Crime Score of 3, under the national average of 4. Front porches, carports and garages, and deep backyards are just a few other features of these homes, which typically list for between $125,000 and $280,000.

Mother Road to hot chicken
A hip place to meet friends and hang out is Mother Road Market at the corner of 11th and Lewis, over a mile west of the neighborhood. Named after historic Route 66 (also known as “Mother Road”), this food hall brings together startup eateries in one warehouse-like space. Closer to home, residents can shop at Target, Reasor’s grocery or Lowe’s next to Expo Square. Eleventh Street is also lined with restaurants, including Tally’s Good Food Café, with its retro-diner decor, or Chicken and the Wolf, featuring Nashville hot chicken. “The restaurant started as a food truck and now has three locations in Tulsa,” Beaubien says.

State fair and football
The Tulsa State Fair is the city’s largest family event, held for 11 days starting the fourth Thursday after Labor Day at the Tulsa Expo Center, adjacent to Fair Heights. With agricultural exhibits, live music, kiddie rides, food, shopping, and daily entertainment, the fair offers something for everyone. Another big neighborhood event is whenever the University of Tulsa plays football. “The area becomes one big tailgating party, and there’s free food and bands,” Beaubien says. “The stadium is on 11th Street, so most people just walk over.”
