In 1947, 13-year-old Elvis Presley lived on North Green Street in the Park Hill neighborhood of Tupelo. The future king of rock n’ roll would walk down to Mayhorn Grocery, sit on the porch and listen to the gospel music coming from the church across the street. All these years later, the choir is still singing at Springhill Baptist Church and the neighborhood continues to be home to colorful mom-and-pops like O’Lucky B’s Famous Nachos. Park Hill is really centrally located, as Tupelo resident Ozzie Tumblin, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Southern Real Estate, describes it. “It’s in the middle of Tupelo. It’s close to the mall and downtown.”

Shopping and dining on North Gloster Street
North Gloster Street, one of the city’s major thoroughfares, runs along Park Hill’s western edge. The road 2 miles south leads to Kroger and The Mall at Barnes Crossing, with anchor store Belk. A Cinemark movie theater is 4 miles north, and soon there will be an anticipated addition to the strip. “We’re getting a Target, so we’re excited. We’ve been wanting a Target for years,” says Vicki West, a Realtor with Crye-Leike Realtors and a longtime Tupelo resident. “We’re a small town. We have a population of 40,000 people, so this is big for us. Now, if we could just get a Publix and a Whole Foods, I would be so happy.”
Familiar chains like Outback Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse are on North Gloster Street for dining out in the neighborhood. O’Lucky B’s Famous Nachos, a bright blue building on North Green Street, is a local hangout for nachos, wings and burgers. The restaurant is steps away from Springhill Baptist Church, the city’s oldest historically Black church built in the 1850s.
