The residential Thomas Street neighborhood of Tupelo is not the city’s center, but its location near West Main Street provides access to all of its downtown happenings. At the same time, the community is surrounded by green spaces and local restaurants and is zoned for highly rated schools. The neighborhood is also priced lower than some of its surrounding communities. “You’re close to everything in Tupelo,” says Ricky Murphy, a Realtor with TM Realtors. “It’s an older part of town that has been kept up. There’s a lot going on and there are nice properties.”

The Tupelo Elvis Festival is a multi-day celebration of Elvis Presley’s life and music. Tribute performances, a 5K run and a youth day are part of the festivities. “I went once, and I thought it was going to be a joke, but it was actually entertaining,” Murphy says. The Tupelo Farmers’ Depot is held downtown on Saturdays from May through October. Several churches sit along South Thomas Street.

Students are served by Tupelo Public Schools. Kindergarten through second grade students can attend Thomas Street Elementary School, which has an A-minus Niche grade. Pierce Street Elementary School, which houses grades 3-6, also earns an A-minus. Tupelo Middle School holds an A rating, as does Tupelo High School, where students can earn college credits through partnerships with Delta State University and Itawamba Community College.
