Home of the Tuskegee Airmen and Tuskegee University
Tuskegee, a city of over 8,000 residents in east-central Alabama, is known as the training site for the nation's first Black military aviators. The Tuskegee Airmen famously trained at the Tuskegee Army Airfield and formed the 332nd Fighter Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Tuskegee University, located in the city's heart, was contracted by the U.S. Military to help train the Tuskegee Airmen because of its previous success in aviation training. The University continues operations today and is the City's beating heart, serving as the only HBCU to offer ROTC for every Military branch. With its steadily decreasing population, the City of Tuskegee hopes to gain economic steam and turn the tide. The U.S. Department of Commerce granted over $2.5 million to the city to help improve infrastructure and build an automotive manufacturing facility. Construction was also completed on Building 100 at the Regional East Alabama Logistics Park, a massive structure open to house various businesses. The Macon County Economic Development Authority says this investment will bring many new jobs to Macon County. Current major employers include Tuskegee University and the Central Alabama VA Medical Center.
Tuskegee is located close to the capitol city of Montgomery and is even a shorter drive away from Auburn.

Tuskegee has several museums that showcase its extensive history
Several cultural centers and museums reflect Tuskegee's deep history and culture. The Tuskegee Human and Civil Rights Multicultural Center, also known as the Tuskegee History Center, memorializes victims and survivors of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. The center is now part of the African American Civil Rights Network. The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site features artifacts associated with the crew. The museum, free to the public, occupies the old hangars at Moton Field, where the pilots trained for WWII. The George Washington Carver Museum sits on the Tuskegee University campus, where Carver taught and conducted important agricultural research.
The Tuskegee Repertory Theater puts this history on stage downtown. The theater was designed to reflect the legacy of Black Americans from Tuskegee and spotlight Black stories worldwide through dance and music. Past plays have been related to Booker T. Washington, Tuskegee University, and other essential pieces of Tuskegee history.
