A neighborhood rich in history and conveniences

Named for 19th-century governor Juan Bautista Alvarado and built around an early-20th-century downtown, Union City’s Alvarado neighborhood is as rich in history as it is in conveniences. “It’s the combination of new and old,” says Gloria Ortega, Union City’s Economic Development Manager. “It’s a city people always come back to.” Alvarado covers the western half of Union City and, the historic buildings blend with midcentury homes and modern shopping centers.
