About Union City, GA

One of Georgia’s fastest-growing cities

Union City is one of Georgia’s fastest-growing suburban cities, with updated parks, new community events and planned shopping and nightlife districts. Almost 27,900 people lived in Union City in 2023, an increase of nearly 1,000 people from 2020. Jobs in nearby manufacturing facilities for General Electric and Caterpillar, accessible housing prices and an active city government all draw in new residents. “Union City is still filled with the old hometown charm that small cities have, but we have the presence and the growth of a metropolitan city. We love people, and we want them to know that we welcome them and we’re here to serve them,” says Mayor Vince Williams. Williams has served as mayor since 2013 and ends his speeches with “I love you, and there ain’t nothing you can do about it.”

Homes sell below Atlanta’s median prices

The median price for a single-family home in 2024 was $285,000, lower than the state median of $389,000 and the Atlanta median of $415,000. Accessibly priced housing developments throughout the city include micro-homes at Union Park Cottages. “There’s still affordable housing in Union City because it’s outside of the metro Atlanta area, and it’s still growing and developing,” says Stephanie Kennedy, a Realtor at Weichert Realtors Prestige Partners with over 20 years of experience. “It’s a great place for families; they would probably have a backyard, be able to play outside and have friends in the community.” Homes typically sell after 51 days on the market compared to the national average of 44 days.

Breaking ground on Gateway Park

Union City operates two community centers and two main parks — Ronald Bridges Park and Mayor’s Park. In addition to these established parks, the city has recently added more recreation. The Highway 29 Ballfields has a new skatepark and volleyball court, and the recently built Christian City Multi-Use Trail connects the city’s parks. Union City broke ground for the new Gateway Park in November 2024, which will have a pavilion, sculpture garden, loop trails and a boardwalk when completed.

The Green Manor and a future downtown along Union Street

Most shopping in Union City consists of small shopping centers along State Route 138 and Interstate 85. Union Street has long-standing restaurants in the city's center, including The Green Manor restaurant, a city landmark since 1910. Guests can have lunch in one of the historic mansion's seven themed dining rooms and grab a plate at the Southern-style buffet. According to Williams, the city is working on attracting more restaurants and nightlife to Union Street and Roosevelt Highway.

Police outreach at National Night Out

In 2023, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that Fulton County had a rate of 32 crimes for every 1,000 people. Theft accounted for 59% of all crime in the county that year. Union City also operates its own police department, which holds community outreach programs like Pancakes with the Police and National Night Out.
