Uniontown's history dates to the founding of the US
The founding of Uniontown coincides with a very special day in American history: the signing of the Declaration of Independence. On July 4, 1776, Henry Beeson, who was a Quaker laid down roots in the area. The Historic National Road runs through Uniontown as well. “Uniontown is a growing city that is southbound of Pittsburgh,” says Jeff Dennis, Realtor with Re/Max Select Realty who primarily serves clients all over Fayette County. “It’s near Ohiopyle State Park, where you can go hiking and kayaking. Hiking the Sheepskin Trail from Bailey Park and rafting in Ohiopyle
For recreation, there is Bailey Park, which is located between Dunbar and Pennsylvania Avenue. The park features ball fields, a basketball court, and a playground. The park gives locals quick access to the Sheepskin Trail, which is Fayette County, Pennsylvania’s rail trail that stretches 34 miles from Dunbar Township to Point Marion Borough. In addition to Bailey Park, Ohiopyle State Park is located 16 miles away from Uniontown. Residents can head down US Highway 40 East to get to the park. Ohiopyle is best for those looking for adventure. Whitewater raft down the Youghiogheny River or bike down the Great Allegheny Passage that spans 150 miles, ending in Washington DC. This state park is also a popular spot for campers, so find a spot out in its vast greenery and take in the wildlife around you.

For dining, head on down to downtown Uniontown. For authentic Italian cuisine, you can try Caporella’s Italian Ristorante. For dinner, order Julia’s Fettuccini Alfredo, made with homemade creamy alfredo sauce and mushrooms. Titlow Tavern & Grille, which is housed in a historic early 1900s building, is known for serving classic American fare and is a popular spot for an evening out on the town. Order their Rustic Town Burger or one of their various chicken dishes. Marilyn’s on Main has a similar tavern-like atmosphere and fare. If you are looking for shopping, head on down to Uniontown Mall, located on Mall Run Road. There, you will find popular retailers like Claire’s, JCPenney and rue21. For grocery shopping and other items, Walmart and Target are less than a mile away from the mall. With its blend of historical significance, access to parks and local restaurants, Uniontown offers its residents so much to see and explore.
