Between Dayton and Columbus
About 40 miles from Columbus and Dayton, Urbana is a quaint, historic city of about 11,000 in west central Ohio. It was founded in the early 1800s and has several listings on the National Register of Historic Places. Multiple markers around the city tell the story of its growth and role in history, from the growth of railroads to the Underground Railroad. “We came in 2016 to restore a house, we ended up moving, and now we operate three Airbnbs here,” says Lee Ann Steed, a Realtor with Red 1 Realty. “It’s a 40- to 50-minute drive to Columbus, and it’s a different world. People will wave at you.”
The historic city has modern job opportunities. Honeywell Aerospace, Weidmann Electrical Technology and Rittal Corporation, a manufacturer of industrial and IT enclosures, have large Urbana facilities.

The Monument Square Historic District is Urbana's downtown retail hub at the intersection of Main, Miami, and Scioto streets. The area's history is told at the Champaign County Historical Society Museum, where photographs and other artifacts are displayed.
