Valinda offers a more subdued, hidden alternative to the other Los Angeles County suburbs around it. “It's such a small city; it’s so tiny that half the time people think it’s the city of La Puente and not its own thing,” says Realtor Remoun Said, who works with Keller Williams Pacific Estates and has over a decade of experience in the area. This lesser-known neighborhood doesn’t mind — it keeps a low profile and has a low CAP Index Crime Score: a 3 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4. Here residents can expect a laid-back atmosphere, where they can go on walks and mosey over to the beloved neighborhood park, a popular spot for families.
Midcentury ranch-style homes and cottages in Valinda
A suburb in the San Gabriel Valley, Valinda is composed of winding roads lined with single-family homes and sidewalks, where it’s common to see neighbors taking afternoon strolls. “It has a better walking score. People tend to do more outdoor activities here,” says Rodrigo Franco, Realtor of Re/Max Time Realty with over two decades of experience in the region. The yards tend to have fences for extra privacy as well as garden beds, often decorated with boxwood shrubbery and palm trees. As an area mostly built during the 1940s and 1950s, most of the homes have midcentury architecture. Two-bedroom cottages range from $500,000 to $700,000, while larger ranch-style homes range from $700,000 to $1.1 million.

Rimgrove Park and more nearby recreation
As Valinda’s only park, Rimgrove Park is the community’s most popular recreation space, tucked in the neighborhood’s southeastern section. It offers a splash pad and a playground for the kids, plus ballfields, picnic areas and walking paths. Rimgrove Park is also part of LA County’s Parks After Dark, an annual summertime event series, with activities like free concerts, movies and fitness classes. About a mile north of Valinda, Walmerado Park has basketball courts, a playground and baseball fields with frequent pony league games. The Industry Hills Golf Club, located on Valinda’s southern edge, has a public 36-hole course with views of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Shops and restaurants on North Hacienda Boulevard
The community’s main retail district is North Hacienda Boulevard, which runs along Valinda’s western edge. The area has many diverse food options that reflect a predominantly Hispanic and Asian population. These include the family-owned La Flor De Jalisco Mexican Bakery, a quick takeout spot for pan dulce and tamales. At Pho oh love, patrons can order authentic Vietnamese dishes like cha gio and banh xeo in a casual atmosphere. Coffinated Coffee is a unique horror-themed cafe, with decorations ranging from the Pennywise the clown from “It” to Slimer in “Ghostbusters.” Here patrons can order specialty horror beverages, play board games and watch horror films on the TV. For groceries, there's a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Community events in West Covina and the City of Industry
Although Valinda doesn’t have any big events, it’s next to two neighborhoods with many celebrations throughout the year. West Covina, which borders Valinda to the north and east, hosts seasonal gatherings like the Halloween-themed Harvest Night Festival, which has a costume contest and pumpkin decorating. At the Let It Snow in West Covina event, there’s a tree lighting, sledding and live music. In the City of Industry, directly south of Valinda, locals can go to rodeos, dog shows and speedway races at the Industry Hills Expo Center.
A central location only 20 miles to downtown Los Angeles
Valinda is a semiwalkable community, although most residents commute to work by car. It’s located about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles via Interstate 10. The neighborhood’s central location also offers access to cities like Pasadena and Riverside. “The main appeal is probably proximity to the San Gabriel Valley, LA and the Inland Empire,” Said says. For public transportation, there are a few Foothill Transit bus stops along North Hacienda Boulevard. The closest medical center is the Queen of the Valley Hospital, about 2 miles north of Valinda. Ontario International Airport, the nearest major airport, is located about 20 miles away.
