Pine Cove offers a quiet mountain escape surrounded by dense evergreen forests. This small residential mountainous community has quietly maintained its natural beauty. In fact, “Not very many people know about it; they call it all ‘Idyllwild,’” says Brandy Nelson, Executive Director of Equity Union Real Estate with over 20 years of experience. “I have a place there. It has a lot of places to hike and to see the wilderness – with beautiful skies and views and snow. In the hot weather, people come from Palm Springs; in an hour, they’re in the snow.” With cozy mountain homes and proximity to the shops of Idyllwild, Pine Cove is a hotspot for outdoor enthusiasts.

Low crime score, high wildfire risk
According to the CAP Index, Pine Cove has a very low crime score, with all categories scoring a 1 or 2 compared to the national average of 4.
Pine Cove residents experience authentic mountain living; that means when it snows, roads are not cleared by the county. It also means that there is a wildfire risk to Pine Cove and Idyllwild. There is one main road between both communities, and when that road closes due to a natural hazard or road repairs, it leaves residents vulnerable. Between 2009 and 2019, Idyllwild was evacuated three times due to fires. Additionally, the construction materials of manufactured homes make them particularly susceptible to fires. However, there is a fire department in Pine Cove, which ensures appropriate amounts of vegetation surround area properties. The Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council, also headquartered in Pine Cove, provides property owners grant funding for fire prevention projects.
