Suburban Neighborhood in Vallejo, California
Solano County 94510, 94591
Hillside homes and condos with marina views
Wide neighborhood streets go up and down hills; trees grow in medians, which turn red in November. Some New Traditional and Mission Revival homes are neutral-toned, while others have pops of color, like red shutters or light pink façades. Prices start at about $570,000, with some in need of renovations selling for less. Single-family homes reach $980,000 for a prime spot overlooking the marina in the gated Vista Del Mar subdivision. Condos and townhouses are close to the water, mainly clustered on the western side of the marina. They start at $275,000 for a one-bed, one-bath and extend to $625,000 for a three-bed, two-and-a-half-bath. “The townhomes and condos have some of the best views,” Rojas says. “Many of those communities have HOAs, but other subdivisions don’t.”Walking to Glen Cove Elementary
Glen Cove Elementary is in the middle of the neighborhood. It is rated C on Niche. Public school students may advance to Hogan Middle, rated C-minus. Jesse Bethel High, rated B-minus, has a championship-winning girls’ volleyball team. On the other side of Interstate 780, St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School is a private Catholic option. It is rated A on Niche and boasts a 100% graduation rate.Sailing and socializing at the Glen Cove Marina and pickleball courts
The Glen Cove Marina and Yacht Club are major draws to living in the neighborhood. Locals can rent or buy boat slips at Glen Cove Marina, and even those without boats are welcome at the Glen Cove Yacht Club, which hosts monthly barbeques and coastal cleanups for the community. The neighborhood pickleball courts are always flooded with people of all ages and abilities; the spur-of-the-moment, pick-up game vibe welcomes strangers to pair up for doubles matches, whether or not they live in Glen Cove.At Benicia State Recreation Area, anglers fishing for bass and bullhead cast lines into the Carquinez Strait, creating ripples in its glassy surface. This state-protected wetland contains Forrest Deaner Botanical Garden, where local volunteers planted native plants like Coyote mint and California sagebrush. Nature lovers can watch hummingbirds flutter. Distant cars whoosh down the road across the strait and the occasional plane flies overhead – reminders that the bustle of the Bay Area is never far away.
Bordering Interstate 780
Interstate 780 runs east-to-west along the northern edge of Glen Cove. It connects to Interstate 80, which crosses the Strait via the Alfred Zampa Memorial Bridge. The neighborhood is 5 miles from downtown Vallejo and 36 miles from Oakland International Airport. Sutter Solano Medical Center and Vallejo Kaiser Permanente Hospital are 6 miles away. SolTrans buses stop throughout the neighborhood, taking passengers to the Vallejo Transit Center and throughout the city.Low crime score and coastal breezes to beat the heat
Vallejo can get hot. Temperatures in the 80s are common, and heat can push them into the triple digits. But Glen Cove is breezier than inland neighborhoods, providing some relief. Additionally, residents of Glen Cove consider the neighborhood to be safer than other parts of Vallejo. “My sister-in-law is scared of Vallejo, but in Glen Cove, I can leave my doors open and no one does anything,” Xavier says. The CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national figure of 4.Catching up with friends at the local coffee shop
Benicia Coffee Company is the kind of local coffee shop where customers ask the cashier how the family is doing. This cash-only establishment has a handmade sign artfully stating, “Friends don’t let friends go to Starbucks.” It’s located next to Palermo’s, an intimate lunch and dinner spot serving Italian food and decorated with colorful paintings of the Italian coast. Grocery shoppers can head to Safeway or Rose Market.
