Suburban Neighborhood in Vancouver, Washington

When you think of living on the outskirts of a city, convenience is the last thing you’d expect to get. At Fisher’s Village-Orchards, you’re close to the action without sacrificing that small-town feel.
Large open areas of land are interspersed with a handful of small businesses and major employers. Homes are clustered at each end of the neighborhood, with in-line town houses to the west and cul de sacs of single-family homes to the east. The west end’s town houses are primarily in the foursquare style, with most built in the early 2000s. “There’s not a lot of new construction because homes have already been built up,” says Realtor Becky Konat of Homes by Becky. These fetch a reliable price range of $400,000 to $450,000. Over on the east side, bungalows and split levels go for closer to $500,000 or $600,000, with differing paint colors and slight architectural tweaks like the odd porch or attached garage.
Kids in Fisher’s Village-Orchards attend Pioneer Elementary, rated C-plus by Niche. School faculty have a Multilingual Language Learners program to support kids learning English as a second language. Frontier Middle School, a C-plus-rated school, offers an 8th-grade world language exam from which kids can earn up to four high school credits. Union High earns an A-minus and ranks tenth out of 404 high schools in the state for student-athletes.
“The area is beautiful, with lots of outdoor activities, and it’s close to everything,” says Konat. Just a quick drive or bike ride north sits Oak Grove Neighborhood Park, a local favorite where you can shoot hoops at the basketball court or practice your technique at the skaters’ spot. If you’d rather kick back in the shade, there are three picnic tables and two benches to make use of for you and your friends. Dawn ‘til dusk, this park is open to the public and its furry friends; for them, there’s a dedicated off-leash dog park so they can have fun too. The freshly paved walking path is generously wide, making it feasible for larger groups of people and dogs to share the space without bumping into one another. Though the trees provide shade, the most attractive feature of the park is its wide-open grassy field where locals can kick a ball around.
For a relaxing vibe after the park, head to Crave Grille, just a half mile away. Known for its American-style Kobe beef, this burger spot has premium quality beef that goes down easily with a drink from their happy hour menu. Marg and mojito lovers will flock here Monday through Friday with the food discounts offered. For a Hawaiian twist on your taste buds, Hula Boy Charbroil features various Bento plates, pork, chicken and vegetable options. If you just came for a drink, alcoholic or otherwise, they have you covered with Hawaiian Sun Juice and several beers.
Shopping here is even closer, with a Walmart Supercenter in the middle of the neighborhood for your basic needs. The Safeway on the east end offers more tailored food options for special occasions, like birthday cakes and fruit platters. Safeway takes walk-ins if you forgot your flu shot this season. Those who can’t stand the biannual pilgrimage to the dentist are in luck because Fisher’s Village-Orchards has two dentists to choose from. New Horizons Dental is half a mile down Fourth Plain Boulevard, as is Vancouver Smiles Dentistry, in the opposite direction.
After a long day of work or running some errands, releasing that extra energy can make all the difference. OutRaged Rage Rage Room is the first of its kind in Vancouver. Throw paint at the walls and smash objects to your heart’s content; it’s what they’re here for. If you still want to get active without the destruction, check out 10K Fitness down the road. Their personal training programs, both in person and online, focus on understanding your own body and calisthenics. All are encouraged to get started wherever they are in their fitness journey.
With plenty to do in every direction, Fisher’s Village-Orchards is an excellent choice for the home buyer looking to settle down in a small community with all the perks of the city.
