Suburban Neighborhood in Vancouver, Washington
Clark County 98682
North Image lives up to its name because it’s one of two neighborhoods, the other being Burnt Bridge Creek, that stretch across Vancouver’s northern city limits on the eastern side of Interstate 205. But while it may seem isolated, the neighborhood’s location at the end of the State Route 500 Expressway offers easy access to the Mill Plain shopping district, the Vancouver Mall, and the unincorporated community of Orchards in Clark County.
Most of North Image’s subdivisions weren’t laid out until the mid-1990s, so it’s extremely rare to find a house in this neighborhood that’s more than 30 years old. Expect various one- and two-story contemporary houses packed tightly on 4,000- to 6,000-square-foot lots. These houses typically fetch $350,000 to $600,000 apiece. Sprawling apartment complexes and manufactured home parks also dot North Image’s 960-acre area. They run along the neighborhood’s western edge before giving away to a handful of light manufacturing businesses and a commercial district along Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard from the Orchards Community Shopping Center to the Walmart Super Center on Northeast 147th Avenue.
Perhaps the neighborhood’s biggest recreational draw is the two-year-old dinosaur-themed playground at Nikkei Park, where children can climb across a dinosaur skeleton that sticks out of the ground, run across a playground shaded by artificial palm trees, and dig for fossils in a sandbox. This park sits just south of Image Elementary School, which received a solid B on Niche.com and serves neighborhood children from pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade. From here, most of the neighborhood’s children will attend Covington Middle School and Heritage High School. However, those who live south of Northeast 49th Street and east of Northeast 122nd Avenue will attend Pacific Middle School and Evergreen High School. All five of these are managed by Evergreen Public Schools, the third-best school district in Clark County, according to Niche.com.
In addition to being home to a Grocery Outlet and a Walmart, the commercial strip that runs along Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard features a variety of restaurants like Blind Onion Pizza and Pub, where you can grab a slice of pizza and a soda for $5 during the lunch hour, Hula Boy Charbroil, which offers a menu of traditional Hawaiian entrees, bento boxes, teriyaki dishes, and sandwiches, and the Crave Grille, which offers a selection of burgers made with American-style Kobe beef. Those looking for something more should head west on the State Route 500 Expressway to the Vancouver Mall and the Vancouver Plaza, where you’ll find more than a dozen stores and two movie theaters, or south on I-205 to the Mill Plain Shopping District, where you’ll find several businesses including a Fred Meyer, a Trader Joe’s, and another Walmart at the same intersection.
On paper, east Vancouver’s North Image neighborhood may seem like an isolated area on the outskirts of town. But its closeness to two major thoroughfares puts everything the city offers at your fingertips, making this such a great place to call home.
