Milner is a rural getaway not too far west of Lexington

The train from the nearby Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum goes through Milner, carrying riders seeking a firsthand look at the bluegrass pastures, crop farms and other attractions in this part of Kentucky’s horse country. “I’ve lived here all my life. It’s just been peaceful around here all the time,” says Heath Payton, owner of Payton Farm Repair. He says the train can be a nuisance sometimes but adds that Milner offers all the perks of a rural community. “Everybody knows everybody."

This area, about 20 miles west of Lexington, has long piqued outsider interest and is a getaway for many — the community is within minutes of prominent establishments like the Wild Turkey Distillery.

The housing includes ranch-style homes, modern Traditionals and other styles with features like dormer windows and covered porches. Home and lot sizes affect costs, and many go from about $400,000 to $840,000. Larger homes on multi-acre lots pass the $1 million mark. The community’s overall CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, putting it below the national average of 4.
