Homes fill Vinton while industry and nature frame its edges
There is a lot packed into the areas surrounding the tiny village of Vinton. It’s located on the east bank of the Rio Grande River and close to the bustling city of El Paso, a sprawling state park, and the New Mexico border. Light industrial facilities occupy Vinton’s north side, including Vinton Steel, a mini steel mill that will soon undergo a $255 million expansion. Just north of Vinton is FCI La Tuna, a low security federal prison with about 675 inmates. Yet, inside Vinton are homes and not much else. This sleepy community of about 2,000 people is almost entirely residential, save for a few restaurants, parks and streets punctuated by the Franklin Mountains rolling gently in the distance.
Ranch-style and manufactured homes dominate the area
Most homes in Vinton are ranch-style and Minimal Traditional. They sit on narrow lots often surrounded by low fences and dotted with tall trees and drought-resistant shrubs. Manufactured homes are also common, either located among the single-family homes or in mobile home parks. A growing number of three- and four-bedroom New Traditional houses are cropping up in the Kiely View Estates subdivision on Vinton’s south side. Prices range from about $230,000 to $350,000.

Abeja Park is another colorful playground reserved for families living in the Hemley Park Apartment complex. Residents cool off at Wet N’ Wild Waterworld in nearby Anthony, and head to El Paso to hike, bike rock climb and camp at Franklin Mountains State Park.
Most shopping and dining options are in nearby El Paso
Vinton is almost all residential, but the community does a Family Dollar for shopping close to home. Great American Steakhouse and local spots Emilianos Pizza & Mexican Food and Gran Sabor are conveniently located in the community. All other shopping and dining options are in El Paso. Shopping centers like Mesa Plaza and West Ten Center offer Walmart, Home Depot, Food King, Sam’s Club and a mix of national and regional chain restaurants. Downtown El Paso’s many hip shops, restaurants and bars are about 20 miles away. The closest hospital, The Hospitals of Providence - Transmountain Campus, is about 5 miles away.
Interstate 10 is conveniently close
Due to the lack of a fixed bus route in town, residents get around by car. Interstate 10 runs along the village’s east side and connects to Anthony, El Paso and other cities. El Paso International Airport is about 26 miles away.
Flooding is possible, tornadoes are rare
While rare, it’s possible for the area to experience tornadoes. Flooding is more common, and can happen after heavy rain. Flood insurance isn’t required, but many homeowners may want to consider purchasing it.
