Residential Montrose neighborhood is convenient to Boston

Interstate 95 runs through the northern end of Montrose, a neighborhood in northeast Wakefield with an MBTA bus stop that connects to a transfer at Malden Center, making commutes to Boston convenient. The primarily residential community also has a centrally located park and an upscale shopping center 2 miles away. "It's close to the highway," says local Realtor Laurie Hunt, “and it's not far from MarketStreet Lynnfield, which is a draw for people that want to do shopping."

Homes that are 'young' for the Wakefield area

Montrose has a mix of single-family homes, apartments and condos. Housing here is newer than in other parts of Wakefield and features ranch-style, bi-level and new traditional homes. "It has what I would call 'young' housing," Hunt says. "I used to say the word 'new,' but it's sometimes 30 or 40 years old, but that's young for this area. Montrose is the area of town that at one time had the land to build." Condo sales prices range from $400,000 to $700,000. Smaller single-family homes typically sell for between $550,000 and $900,000, while larger estates can go for $1 million to $1.6 million. The average home value in Montrose is about $55,000 below the average for the Boston metro area.
