Wales offers the small-town Maine lifestyle with access to the city
Situated about 10 miles from Lewiston-Auburn, Wales offers serene country living in the foothills of Maine’s Lakes and Mountains region. “If you want small-town Maine, that’s what Wales is,” says Jonathon Stinson, broker and Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who grew up nearby. “It’s a tight-knit community and there's plenty to do recreationally outside. You can have your own space if that’s what you want, but within 20 minutes, you have everything you need.” Most homes here come with multiple acres of land, and some sit on the shore of Sabattus Pond, where locals can kayak in summer and ice fish in winter. Amenities are a short drive away in Sabattus, and Interstate 95 is only 4 miles away.

The park also has a boat ramp, allowing kayakers and anglers access to the water. The 40-acre Jimmy Stream Conservation Area has 2 miles of trails for hiking and snowshoeing. The Meadows Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course where kids can join junior golfing camps and seasoned golfers can join competitive leagues. A car-reliant community with snowy winters and a low crime score
State Routes 132 and 126 are the main roads through the area, leading about 10 miles to Lewiston-Auburn and 4 miles to Interstate 95. The main roads here are paved, but backroads are often gravel or dirt. Though Maine has cold, snowy winters, Stinson says the weather rarely impacts travel; roads are plowed quickly, and many Mainers get around using snowmobiles. “We used to snowmobile to school,” he says. Houses of worship here include Wales Presbyterian Church and Wales Brethren Church. The overall CAP Index crime score is 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4. Central Maine Medical Center is about 10 miles away, and Portland International Jetport is a 45-mile trip.
