Cul-de-sacs with 1960s constructions

No major roads run through Brooktree North, making the quiet cul-de-sacs a safe place to ride a bike or take a walk. Whether they have one or two stories, the 1960s-era ranch-style and midcentury modern homes retain a cohesive appearance with shutters, shingle roofs and one or two-car garages. Many homes here have pools, but even those that don't most likely have a backyard big enough to install one. Prices range from $1.4 million to $2.2 million, with top prices featuring remodeled rooms and more square footage.

The flat, paved Ygnacio Canal Trail runs through the neighborhood and connects to green spaces like Arbolado Park, which has soccer fields, tennis courts and a playground. Members of nearby swim and tennis clubs can attend casual summer socials and enjoy the seasonal facilities. “There are not only a number of swim clubs, but the arts and rec programs are a standout in the city,” says Betsy Burkhart, communications and community relations manager for the city of Walnut Creek. The Department of Arts and Rec’s activities cater to every demographic, from preschoolers to seniors to intergenerational groups. Programs include summer camps, after-school sports and 3D printing classes. Hiking trails are a draw for the city as well. “They all are popular. And the city has more than 2,000 acres of open space,” Burkhart says. Less than 3 miles from Brooktree North, hiking and biking paths crisscross through the gently sloping terrain of Walnut Creek Open Space.
