The Department of Arts and Rec’s activities cater to every demographic, from preschoolers to seniors to intergenerational groups. Programs include summer camps, after-school sports and 3D printing classes. On the other side of Ygnacio Valley Road, Heather Farm Park is home to walking paths and the Clarke Memorial Swim Center, a public swimming pool. Hiking trails are a draw for the city as well. “They all are popular. And the city has more than 2,000 acres of open space,” Burkhart says. Less than 3 miles from Brooktree North, hiking and biking paths crisscross through the gently sloping terrain of Walnut Creek Open Space.
