"It's a very close-knit neighborhood with a lot of community involvement," says Claudia Soto, a longtime area resident and a Realtor with Coldwell Banker. "It's also very family-friendly with how close it is to top-rated schools and some really nice parks. It's very convenient and centrally located to everything in downtown Walnut Creek, and its proximity to the freeway provides easy access to downtown San Francisco." This East Bay neighborhood's focal point is the Diablo Hills Golf Course, allowing easy access to one of Northern California's most popular and scenic nine-hole courses. Mt. Marchbanks Drive surrounds the Diablo Hills Golf Course, where buyers can primarily find multi-family units. "If you're looking for a little bit more space and not a lot of yard, it's an entry-level neighborhood," says Lanham. "If you're looking for three-bedroom, two-bath townhouses that are affordable in Walnut Creek, that's where you need to be looking." Many of the townhouses back up to the golf course, and Lanham says homeowners need to be on the lookout for rogue golf balls. Townhouses typically cost between $775,000 and $1,075,000. The neighborhood also has condos, which usually have one or two bedrooms. These often cost between $340,000 and $550,000. Detached single-family homes aren't as common, but there are some on Homestead Avenue and other nearby streets. These are usually bungalows or Craftsman houses on small lots with lots of trees and landscaping. Mediterranean homes are also common, with stucco siding and tile roofs. Single-family houses typically cost between $1.25 million and $1.7 million.

Diablo Hills Golf Course is in the center of the community, offering convenient access for avid players. This public nine-hole course is the only one in the region with a par-5 hole. Legendary architect Robert Muir Graves designed the course, which is known for its length and challenging landscape. The course also has a restaurant that can host private events like weddings and corporate parties. The 102-acre Heather Farm Park is just northeast of the neighborhood, with paved walkways that meander around two large ponds. This green space has a dog park, skate park, swimming pool and all-abilities playground. The park is popular for sports, with baseball fields, soccer fields, volleyball courts and tennis courts. The Gardens at Heather Farm is a botanical garden comprising 6.5 acres, full of roses, fruit trees and other brightly colored blooms. The park also connects to the 32-mile Iron Horse Trail for walking, biking and horseback riding along the historic Southern Pacific Railroad. About 14 miles south of the neighborhood. Mt. Diablo State Park offers several hiking trails, picnic areas and scenic vistas, including views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The local Walnut Festival is the community's oldest event and is held each fall, with a parade downtown and a carnival, live entertainment and food and craft vendors at Heather Farm Park. Walnut Creek First Wednesday Street Fest takes place on the first Wednesday of August in front of the Broadway Plaza shopping center. It offers food and craft vendors, beer and wine, live music and a children's area. The restaurant is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Limon is one of the most popular restaurants in the area, known for its Peruvian food like empanadas and rotisserie chicken.
